Okay, so my general comments:


- 7 BP nominees in drama, 12 overall is pretty ridiculous especially when you've got only FIVE BD nominees. Moronic.

- Which brings me to the next point - how the hell did P.T. Anderson miss a Directing nom for There Will Be Blood. I bet he ended up as #6 or something because of the insanely crowded category.

- I KNEW American Gangster would get a big boost here and it did. I only expected a directing nom for it, a BP nom helps it very much too. I am actually a bit surprised Crowe wasn't nominated as well for it. I think AG is still at least a legit contender for a BP OR a BD nom at the Osracs. Won't get both, though, definitely not.

- The Diving Bell and the Butterfly got soem great boost too, though for such an acting-heavy film, there are no acting noms, I'm surprised.

- Cate Blanchett and Jodie Foster getting noms for the BA Drama category just shows how weak it is

- Best Actress (Comedy/Musical) is a huge surprise, though. Nikki Blonsky over Linney and Russell? The hell?! They really liked Hairspray, giving it two acting noms.

- Charlie Wilson's War got some real love as well, though the absence of a directing nom is not good. But three acting noms is quite great, one of them should appear at the Oscars and I think its Screenplay is pretty much a lock for a nom.

- Bardem, Wilkinson, Affleck and Hoffman seem to be locks for the Best Sup. Actor noms, the 5th spot is up in the air between Travolta, Halbrook and von Sydow.

- The Best Picture Musical/Comedy will be a tight race between Juno, Sweeney Todd and Hairspray, IMO. I think all have a legit chance with the latter two having two acting noms and Juno a Screenplay nom, while ST has a directing nom.

Seriously, no Picture nod for Into the Wild AND a nomination for John Travolta?

At least they kind of made up for it with Eastern Promises getting a Picture nod.

I'm sorry that I was bothered by the freaking Golden Globes, when one spends as much time watching the Oscar race it can be hard to step back and realize how truly vain it can all be. That said I'm certainly not sorry I don't have the same soft spot for predictable and bland Oscar bait.

GG are a joke

Bonham-Carter is a longshot, I think. If Marion Cotillard doesn't win in that category, it will be Ellen Page, with Amy Adams being the outside shot.

I do think Depp is on his way to a win (since he doesn't have to compete with Day-Lewis), though, and Picture and Director depend upon how much buzz the movie gets going between now and then. For Burton to win over the Coen Brothers, it's going to take a whole hell of a lot of buzz.

i love the Charlie Wilson's War love. I'm very excited about the film and can't wait to see it.

these didn't change things as much as I thought they would, even if they were detrimental to outside hopefuls like Into the Wild and Gone Baby Gone.

No Knocked Up anywhere.

I'm really glad they nominated Julia, to be honest. Charlie Wilson's War is still one of my most anticipated and I think she looks great in it.

Lack of Knocked Up isn't surprising. Stoner comedies don't travel well overseas. I guess Amsterdam is underrepped at the HFPA

Good movies are good movies, no matter Oscar bait or not.

The whole musical/comedy category is way too crowded.

And nonsensical, as if a musical couldn't also be serious. There have been plenty of dramatic musicals recently.

If you want to talk nonsensical, then think about them categorising films like Ma Vie En Rose, Ray or Walk the Line as musicals...

Maybe Once just... ISN'T good...
