How exactly am I expecting WAAAAY too much from a kid's flick?

Coherence. They rarely are...kids like em' anyway.

Flawed way of thinking there. I can run off 100 children films that are coherent. The "oh well, kids will like it anyway" argument doesn't really work. It's not as if an 8 year old can drive themselves to a movie theater.

Fair enough. I just think, more fundamentally, that a kid's flick can be incoherent and still be good as far as kid's flicks go. I'd never watch this movie at a theater anyway, but apparently some people are enjoying it. The consistent BO#s have surprised me---I thought this would be a Honeymooners-like bomb. If it holds up--another Herbie installment might not be out of the question.

They can but I wouldn't allow my son or daughter to. To many sick people in the world today.

I figured the only way a Herbie thread would get over 50 replies would be if over 70% of them was arguing...

The good news: I saw Herbie: Fully Loaded for free.

The bad news: I saw Herbie: Fully Loaded

I just walked out of a screening with about 400 kids and their parents. Most of them clapped. I was expecting that. For children, I can see how this was a pretty cool movie. Herbie is cute, climbs up walls, and spits oil in the face of the bad guy. Fine. This is perfect for a young child, and anyone who felt nostalgic towards the original films. I don't fit into both of those categories.

For people such as me, it's pretty unbearbale. I will admit at first I thought the film was kind of funny, and somewhat clever. That was during the opening credits with the flashbacks of Herbie. Then the film pretty much goes down hill from here. With one exception, which has been brought up many times in this thread. I'm not sure if it's just bad filmmaking by director Angela Robinson, but how does no one realize Max is Maggie? The see through face shield doesn't help matters, and sometimes her hair even flows out of her helmet. Whatever caused this, it did have me cracking up/pissed off somewhat. Of course I did see it for free though, so I am not too aggrevated. For those of you who paid for this. I laugh  at you.

I don't even want to bring up the awful '80s soundtrack, and the awful CGI effects, mostly because this is what you can expect from a Disney film now, or at least it just seems that way.

The film clearly wasn't made for me, and kids will like it, but still, it's pretty fucking awful.

That should be part of Disney's ad campaign.

The Max/Maggie storyline strikes again.

It had a feel like it was being entertaining, but nothing stood out as ACTUALLY entertaining.

And... am I the only one who thought the most hilarious scene of the entire movie was when Herbie seemingly got turned on by staring at Lindsay Lohan's ass?

I think I'm the only one who liked it.

No, it wasn't as good as previous remake entries such as Freaky Friday, however it was still enjoyable. Lindsay Lohan was good, as usual, but also not up to previous efforts by her.

Overall, enjoyable but not as good as it could have been.

I am in the same camp as matatonio. I enjoyed it much more than I imagined to. Lindsay Lohan does a decent job and the film, while immensly stupid and technicaly sub-par is still a lot of fun.
