If I saw this for a third time I think I would have to punch a small child in the face.

Exactly. If they don't know how to behave, and feel OK offending others, they get their ass kicked, so they'll think next time before opening their rotten mouths.

Really?? Wow. Still in my top 3 of 2008 after three viewings. Clint Eastwood is amazing.

the pathetic attmept at a script that lures people in by pretending to be serious and real, not to mention some of the worst actors in the history of film (both of the asain kids, the priest, all of the family) and a very boring directorial hand= a film that makes me want to punch a small child in the face after a few viewings.

Seriously.

You might not like this movie as everyone is entitled to their opinion and that's OK, but it's funny how right you think you are.

If the film had some of the worst actors in the history of film and a very boring directorial hand (this made me laugh quite hard, you might not like Clint, but his directing even when it's not top notch is better than most of directors working today) would it:

Have an A Cinemascore (which implies great WOM)?
Would it end up with a 5.02 multiplier after a $29,484,388 OW? (Even when you take out the earnings in limited release it still has a huge 4.65 multiplier.)
Have a 8.4 average user grade on imdb.com and currently occupy #84 on Top 250?
Have an A- on Yahoo Movies from users?
Have a 79% Tomatometer with a 7.1/10 average grade?
Have a 72 Metacritic rating?
Have a BFCA score of 85 (and a Critics Choice mark)?

Oh and NBR gave it the best original screenplay award. Talk about a pathetic script.

Yes, all this doesn't mean you should like the movie. As I said enjoyment is individual, but even when I don't like a highly regarded movie I can see why it's highly regarded, but it's just not my cup of tea. Certainly there are undeserved duds that get the attention, but GT is not one of them.

Did you ever think you approached the movie the wrong way? Cause from everything you wrote that's the only logic reason I can see behind your rants.

1st of all, my rants are intended to be funny and make my point through hyperbole. If I have to explain that I guess it didn't come through, but oh well.

Secondly, most of the time I would agree with you. 99% of the time a film has wildly positive remarks from basically every movie source in existence, I can, at the very least, see why this exists. While I do sometimes disagree with the scores, you are correct that I usually can understand the reason behind the acclaim.

This is a rare exception. I found very little to marvel over and nothing to enjoy in this film. I understand that I am largely alone in that opinion, but I stand by it nonetheless and could not change it if I wanted to.

Oh, and btw, I do like Clint Eastwood as a director. Very much. I actually find the much criticized mystic river to be wonderful, I also enjoy million dollar baby immensely and the 45 minutes I saw of Letter from Iwo Jima made me want to see more (not to mention the great unforgiven) however I simply found nothing of the clint I loved in this film.

Fair enough. But next time add a smiley or hint somehow you're hyperboling or whatever.

Any "real man" likes the themes of the movie, the bonding between Clint and the Boy and the total bad ass acting by Clint. If he doesn't I question his masculinity, lol.

Watched it a 2nd time and yes the film has a real weakness with acting, but the movie is heart warming and charming and sad.

It does it in a simple manner, and not in some stupid over the top way that was overrated Oscar crap does.

Critics and elitist may not like the film, but almost every guy I know respect Clint for his last film, which was a great one.

Well DONE

Raise it from a B+ to an A- or a top 100 favourite.

There's a little 'town from Mississippi Burning' in him too.

Know of MB but never saw or don't remember.

Anyway, based on what I think it is about, I disagree.

As both Archie and Clint were big talkers with soft hearts.

Look at Clint, he accepted the whole neighborhood and mostly their gifts but still bitched about everyone. And he hated killing, even though he carried around guns cause of the killing he did in the war. And he was even ashamed of the medal he won for killing the enemy during the war.
