Weak Saturday increases as well. Though a lot of the Sunday drops are probably overestimated, Oscar Sunday won't cause a 50% slide for American Sniper.

Films that did well
McFarland, USA
The DUFF
The Imitation Game

Films that did okay
Kingsman: The Secret Service
The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water
American Sniper
Paddington

Films that did bad
Fifty Shades of Grey
Hot Tub Time Machine 2
Jupiter Ascending

Fifty Shades of Grey was expected to hold poorly, but it is impossible to say a 72% second weekend plummet is even okay. Kingsman and SpongeBob's Sunday drops seem too precipitous; I doubt Oscar Sunday will impact them so significantly, so they will go up with actuals. American Sniper will be hit a little harder, but it should go up as well. McFarland, USA and The DUFF both moderately outperformed pre release expectations, but the same can't be said for Time Machine. This is probably the last time a liked, but not loved comedy gets a sequel. Jupiter Ascending will close with less than 50 million, obviously a disappointing result. The Imitation Game and Paddington continue their leggy runs for the Weinstein Company, too bad they weren't bigger hits.

Pretty crappy weekend with the exception of McFarland/The DUFF mildly overperfroming against expectations. Too bad the same can't said about HTTM 2 which completely fucking bombed. This should be the last time Hollywood ever green lights a sequel to a comedy that wasn't loved in the first place. Seriously, it's a huge waste of time and money.

The drop for 50 Shades isn't that surprising considering it's fanbase and the weak Cinemscore. What does surprise me however, is the fact that SpongeBob still hasn't been able to stabilize despite no real competition in the family market right now.

Despite being an average weekend it should still beat out the same weekend from last year and not be all that far off the same weekend in 2010 which had Shutter Island open to 40m+

I'm sure it will happen again, and will do so many times in the future.

Solid weekends for McFarland, USA and The DUFF.

People abandoned Fifty Shades as expected, although I think it could have dropped closer to 80% so...OK?

Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2, Pitch Perfect 2, Ted 2, Hotel Transylvania 2, Alvin and the Chipmunks 4 ... and that's just this year.

Paul Blart is certainly not loved, you are correct. Pitch Perfect and Ted certainly are. Hotel Transylvania 2 and Alvin and the Chipmunks are not comparable though.

Me neither. Of all those sequels, it is the only one I am also excited for.

Yes I do think Fifty Shades could have dropped 80% as well. Fifty Shades, while seeing a huge drop, was on the lower end of expectations drop-wise.

The DUFF really did quite well. I'm happy for it. Deserves it.

I'm glad The DUFF did well for Mae Whitman, but on what planet would she be considered the ugly fat friend?

You don't have to be dumb or ugly though. She's just the least attractive of the group and the approachable one.

The Duff's cast is so second rate. I mean she's the DUFF but some of her friends look on the same level as her.

I think that's the lowest bar you need to clear for these teenage movies- actually finding actors/actresses who can fulfil the basics in believability. Look at something like Mean Girls, mostly hot, can act etc. compared to the Duff and others like it.

Also, I too am looking forward to Pitch Perfect 2. It's such a crowd pleaser. The rest fit the "didn't need a sequel" category.
