 Re: August 19-21 Predictions
CONAN will win the weekend, but it should be a close race with 5 film making over 13 million, SK4 could break out and make 22 million

 Re: August 19-21 Predictions
Conan 15-19 Spy Kids 14-17 Fright Night 11-13 One Day 7-9
That would be disappointing for all of them I think. Granted, none of them are expected to do anything anyway but one would have thought being greenlit they would have expected:
Conan 27 Spy Kids 27 Fright Night 23 One Day 15.5
Or something of the sort.
I hope for:
One Day 21 Conan 19 Fright Night 15 Spy Kids 7.5

I really hope One Day will breakout. It looks wonderful and can very well be this year's (500) Days.

Yes, The Help will win the weekend. None of the openers will open above $16m.

 Re: August 19-21 Predictions
Three 3D movies!
The Help - $15M Rise of the Apes - $14M Spy Kids - $13M Fright Night - $12M Conan - $11M One Day - $10M
Hopefully one of the openers can break out a little. Otherwise this will be a very boring weekend.

Fright Night feels like something that could do 20-ish to me.

The Dark Shape wrote: Fright Night feels like something that could do 20-ish to me. its rated R, its not gonna get close to 20 more like 15, why would this movie open higher than FD5 even if the series did have bad WOM from FD4. Fright Night should have been PG-13 then it would have been a breakout hit

 Re: August 19-21 Predictions
Fright Night has had some aggressive marketing, but the way movies have been underperforming lately nothing is certain anymore. If FD5 couldn't hit $20M than I don't see FN doing it either. I have to agree with devon that if it was PG-13 it would have been bigger.

 Re: August 19-21 Predictions
People hated The Final Destination. Seriously. It crippled the franchise.
I see Fright Night TV spots all the time. It appeals to teens. It's a remake that most people don't actually know is a remake, so it seems fresh. $20m certainly seems possible to me.
(Though you're right -- the studio would've been much smarter putting this out as a PG-13.)

 Re: August 19-21 Predictions
Vampires have been castrated by the Twilight films. Can't see Fright Night having too much female appeal either.

 Re: August 19-21 Predictions
I haven't seen much advertising for Conan. Maybe I'm just missing it? I figured Lionsgate would give it a bigger push.

 Re: August 19-21 Predictions
Conan's gonna flop. Under $10m. There's no buzz for it at all.

 Re: August 19-21 Predictions
I agree that Conan is no threat to challenge the weekend title, and only Fright Night has a shot. I put The Help's chance at 90%. What's interesting is that The Help's chance of winning the weekend after is even stronger, like close to 100%.

I don't know whether they always give predictions for next week, but erc is boldly predicting $26m for Conan and $21m for Spy Kids. http://www.ercboxoffice.com/index.php?s ... ews_id=440

Priest would be my example of how hard it is to lure men to a vampire film. Anyways, with such strong weekends I'll up my predictions for Help and Apes to $17M and $16M.

 Re: August 19-21 Predictions
The vampires in True Blood are violent as hell. Hence, no castration.
I didn't even know Priest was a vampire film, which shows how well they apparently marketed the premise.
