Re: Star Wars: The Force Awakens Sellout/Crowd Report Thread
It's certainly something when 'Star Wars' and 'Star Wars 7' are the two most searched for terms after typing in "movie tickets" in Google.

At the Marcus theater near me that has the Ultrascreen, they are showing SW7 in 3D on that screen. Every single showing on that screen is sold out from the 17th through Christmas Eve. That's unbelievable.

Maybe I'll have to buy tickets two months early, after all. It'd be a real bummer if we weren't able to catch a show on opening weekend.

Re: Star Wars: The Force Awakens Sellout/Crowd Report Thread
I mean, unless you're in a major city or want to see it in IMAX ASAP you'll probably be fine waiting until say, a few days before opening day. In the next day or two sales will die down significantly and probably not pick up again until after Thanksgiving weekend.

Kind of funny though if the preview number could already be reported....two months prior!

Re: Star Wars: The Force Awakens Sellout/Crowd Report Thread
As insane as all this is are people really that surprised that pre-sales are this strong ? It's fucking Star Wars which is the definition of a internet/geek friendly franchise. I believe people have always wanted a reason to get excited for these movies again and the fact that it looks great aswell as them bringing back the BIG three should be enough to do it.

Re: Star Wars: The Force Awakens Sellout/Crowd Report Thread
It made $6.5m in one day from IMAX alone. My guess is it's north of $20m in pre-sales at this point.

Where'd you get that IMAX figure from?
How many days of tickets are available for this thing?

How many days of tickets are available for this thing? The IMAX figure comes straight from IMAX themselves. http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/heat-v ... res-833360None of the previous big sellers like Potter, Batman, or Hunger Games went over $1m in their first day of IMAX sales. Pretty amazing that it destroyed all of them by such a large margin.

It really makes no difference. TDKR in IMAX was sold out for weeks.

SW7 sold $6.5m in the first 24 hours (actually less time than that since the report came out before 24 hours was even up). The other films sold less than $1m in their first 24 hours.

Well, ok, but if SW7 has 4 days worth of showtimes to buy from and other movies only have, I dunno, 1 or 3, then it's skewing it, no?
I just don't see it as a fair comparison the way it is written in that article. And I totally see that the chasm between the two revenues is too large to argue against.

Why do you assume the others did not have other showtimes? I bought my tickets for TDKR the first day they were available and my tickets were for Saturday, not for midnight or even Friday night. It is not uncommon for them to offer the entire weekend of tickets for sale on the first day like this. SW7 blew them all out of the water. The fact that all of these were crashed for many hours is strong proof of the demand: Fandango, MovieTickets.com, AMC.com, Regal.com, and just about any other place you can buy movie tickets. This didn't happen with Potter 8, TDK/TDKR, none of the Hunger Games movies, etc.
