Re: Star Wars - Episode VII - Predictions
Oof. So my Force Friday was a semi-success. By the time I got to the aisles, ALL of the Black Series were gone. All I wanted for sure was a Captain Phasma something but she was a hot commodity. I got some good stuff though. I really want the Sphero BB-8 but it's 150 bucks! From what it sounds like though, it's worth the coin.

Wait....Excel thinks this won't gross more than 125m opening weekend? That's a thing?

Re: Star Wars - Episode VII - Predictions
Isn't this making like 120-130 mil its first day (with previews)?

No, it will not make $120 mil opening day. Even with previews.

Re: Star Wars - Episode VII - Predictions
For those talking about the toys, I checked out walmart and Target and the shelves were cleaned out, all they had was legos and a few actions figures. They probably sold 2-3 times amount of SW toys as Jurassic World toys, not that means anything.

Re: Star Wars - Episode VII - Predictions
Ok maybe 120 mil is a little strong. A film that made Deathly Hallows preview numbers and then had Jurassic World's Friday without previews would be around 106. I see the previews record getting broken and going over 50 mil, but not sure about Friday vs JW.
I would join a previews, OD, OW and all time total records, will all fall club. Star Wars is about to prove why it's the most powerful brand in box-office history

50 + 50 seems reasonable at the moment. We won't know how high it can go until it comes out. Jurassic World's WOM spread very fast.

Re: Star Wars - Episode VII - Predictions
The backtracking will begin as the release date nears. Realism will set in. It's super easy (and even gallant for a die hard fan) to predict $5b opening weekend. We all fall down to Earth eventually.

Sub 50% OD to preview is not just wrong. It's plain stupid reasoning.

Re: Star Wars - Episode VII - Predictions
The preview number for this is really hard to figure out, because since Deathly Hallows 2 there's been a pretty clear ceiling of $30-31 million, even with the additional Thursday hours that have been occurring in the last three years. To predict anything higher than that ceiling is tempting ridicule. But it IS Star Wars, a franchise whose last entry DOUBLED the previous midnight record and has the largest base of rabid fans of any fandom today, rivaled only by, yes, Harry Potter. So the range for it is really, really wide, but anything over $30 million from Thursday night would be a great success (and the best midnight/preview number in over three years).

This should touch $35 mil in previews.

This is an interesting article. I'll wait till friday to read his realistic prediction Quote: And that’s a wrap for the pessimistic prediction for Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Join me tomorrow, which will be three months out before the film’s debut in the UK, for the “optimistic” box office prediction. It will probably be a little shorter because there won’t be quite as many qualifiers. And Friday will bring us the “realistic” prediction for the film.
