I have not heard of any expectations for a sequel to be another Shrek 2 outside of this one, I think it is definitely the best comparison.

I think it's opening at the right time and will pass 300. No matter what people in the over 250 million superman club think, it is NOT going to be that big and will not take a chunk out of POTC2. This summer has been kind of weak so far with the big blockbusters, and I think this movie is set up to break out big.

I think it will have a 3 multiplier even with a massive $130+ million opening. The summer is just completely depleted of blockbusters after it, so I think it will have plenty of staying power for audiences bored with the movies coming after it.

As insane as it may sound...maybe. If the competition truly is weak, I can see it having fantastic legs.

I go outside all the time. I deal with a lot of people on a daily basis. I have a lot friends who are movie buffs. I live in a major metropolitian area. I only know one person who is looking forward to it. I only see ads on TV. I really do not see the buzz surronding this. It may surprise but I think it will stay between 280 and 320 and 340 being the max probably it could make in my opinion. It won't make below 250 million.

The first one had a 6.6 multiplier. A 3 multiplier for the second is VERY achievable.

This will make $300m+ but not $400m or $500m.

The higher it opens, the worse the legs...
If it opens above $150 mil, it should get about... 2.8-3.0 multiplier.
If it opens between $125-$150 mil, it should get a little higher... 3.0-3.5 multiplier.
If it opens between $100-$125 mil, it should get even a little more higher... 3.8-4.5 multiplier.
Indeed.

It's the highest tracking film ever, yeah, but that doesn't really mean that it'll just shatter the four-year-old record like it's nothing and beat it by a full $40 million. I think it will break the record, but not by more than $15 million.

Can you guys imagine just for a second what would happen if BJ was right? What kind of response would he give? Would he rub it in our faces indefinitely? Because, let's face it, I don't think anything could ever top calling a $590 million domestic gross. You could predict grosses to the penny of many $100 million films, but that simply pales in comparison. Hm...
Anyway, I'm still in this club, but only out of sheer optimism. Realisitcally, I'm expecting 130/450. But I think there is a chance, if everything goes right for it, and all of the movies after it fall flat, and the WOM is remarkable. It'll need the repeat viewings of the original to get to 500 (myself, I saw it in first-run theaters five times ) but I find that unlikely, with a cliffhanger ending.

I don't think the cliffhanger's as bad as everybody thinks.
[spoil]People do see Sparrow is alive at the end of the movie and that scene will probably be very funny, especially since he shares it with Barbossa.[/spoil]

Are you sure about that? Everything I've heard points away from the early speculations that offered that up as a possible ending.
Even so, I do think this movie will have quite a bit of rewatchability. I saw CotBP 11 times in first-run, and I'm wanting to beat my record by at least one... so, who knows how many times others might decide to go.
