Will Cars end up with more than X-Men: The Last Stand?

Well, I can't edit the poll, so I'll just put the question out there. I don't think Cars will make it. It'd need a multiplier of almost 4 for that and with competition from Garfield 2, Nacho Libre and eventually POTC2, I don't see it reaching it. Currently, I see Cars making around $230-235 million, while X3 should just barely make it to $240 million. It will be close,l though, depending on how hard the upcoming onslaught of TFTF3, Click and Superman Returns will hit X3.

However, chances are great that X3 will actually end up as #2 of the year.

I'll say X3 wins as well. I expect that to land around 230, while Cars get's around 220.

Hm, I think X3 will definitely get further than just $230 million. I mean by the end of the upcoming weekend it'll be at $215+ million and after five weeks, it should be at $222-224 million...

I cant really see how it can get 240 million at this point since its dropping quite a bit and it looks like it will fall behind HP:POA soon. I think it will end up around 235 million.Either way Cars and X-3 gross is going to be extremely close

When BB was still making around 1.5m it managed 30m total from there on out. So yeah anything around 225-235 seems to be where its falling. It's theater drop should be quite a bit this week. After 5 weeks it's practically dead

Well, my current projection is $237 million because of the summer weekdays and some July 4th help.

X3 should get to $240 million with the summer weekdays and its weekend drops levelling off. Cars won't get a 4x multiplier, I don't think. It's reviews aren't as strong and it's got more competition than Nemo or even Madagascar. Garfield, Superman, and especially Pirates will all take away viewers. X3 should win handily.

But if X3 is second for the year with just $240 million, that's not very good for the box office of this year. The last time that #2 was this low was 2000, when Cast Away had $233 million and was second to Grinch's $261 million. That was also the last time we had no $300 million film in a year. Not good.

I think X3 might actually get a light boost this weekend from Fathers Day, which helped Batman Begins out, and there isn't much else out there for dads other then maybe The Da Vinci Code.

After that though, it'll peter out to a little over $230M, just a few mil below Cars (If Garfield can achieve a 3.5 multiplier off the same weekend two years ago, why can't Cars do 4?).

Yeah, 49.7% sometimes. Nice new avatar by the way. Nanna approves.

I guess now its safe to say that X-3 will be the number 2 movie behind POTC2. Cars can range anywhere from number 3-5 depending if it passes DVC and how well SR does. It looks as though X-3 will top out at 235

It's safe to say it'll be number 2 for the summer. Winter still has some potential movies to top its gross.

I'd agree with this. It's a little premature to say it'll be #2 for the entire year, with still the holiday season to come - which always has some surprise hits. But I can't see anything else this summer - other than Pirates - topping it.

My bad I meant summer. I could see Eragon being number 2 or 3 of this year. Other contenders could be Happy Feet and Charlottes Web
