 Re: Friday Numbers (05/29)
Warner Bros. sure crowded a lot of its summer films close together: Hot Pursuit, Mad Max, San Andreas, Entourage.

Did he help more than an additional $5-7 million? Not so sure. as i stated, TDAT had a lot of other factors going for it. Global warming controversy, bigger scale/better money shots (the frozen NYC shot alone is a significant bigger selling point than anyting in San Andreas), and a Memorial Day weekend. Also, if you're admitting that The Rock helped 7m on OW, that by itself is admitting he is a pretty big draw. There are very few (if any) people who have the draw that Will Smith had years back or Cruise had in his peak. I think The Rock helped more than 7m but even if we were to just say it was "only" 7m added, that's big enough these days to say hes a legit draw. I never claimed he was not a draw. But claiming that San Andreas' success is mostly his achievement is not true. If he was a major draw, Hercules, Pain and Gain and Snitch would have done better. Admittedly, they would have done worse without him, but he is still not a really big draw.

 Re: Friday Numbers (05/29)
People always watch disaster movies a lot.
Look at WWZ, TDAT and 2012. As big they were in theaters I imagine more people watched them as they are always on TV.
Imagine same for SA.

No but at the point in time the genre was the star. The straight up disaster concept isn't that big of a sell any more. But how do we know that? San Andreas is the first large-scale film of its kind since then. Pompeii and Into the Storm are the only ones comparable and they were just way smaller in their presentation. You forget Battle:LA and White House Down.

Not natural disaster movies. In particular White House Down is not comparable to it at all.

Different kind of audiences, different kind of appeal. And what disaster happens in Wite House Down? Why not take Olympus Has Fallen or even Die Hard for comparison then?!

 Re: Friday Numbers (05/29)
To a certain degree, yes. Films such as 2012 and San Andreas play on a, "It could happen to you, and how would you and your family survive?" dynamic. People are at once afraid of and in love with speculative apocalypse scenarios. Terrorists invading the White House is much, much more specific. It is just an action-movie plot.
