Global warming controversy, bigger scale/better money shots (the frozen NYC shot alone is a significant bigger selling point than anyting in San Andreas), and a Memorial Day weekend. Also, if you're admitting that The Rock helped 7m on OW, that by itself is admitting he is a pretty big draw. There are very few (if any) people who have the draw that Will Smith had years back or Cruise had in his peak. I think The Rock helped more than 7m but even if we were to just say it was "only" 7m added, that's big enough these days to say hes a legit draw. I never claimed he was not a draw. But claiming that San Andreas' success is mostly his achievement is not true. If he was a major draw, Hercules, Pain and Gain and Snitch would have done better. Look at WWZ, TDAT and 2012. As big they were in theaters I imagine more people watched them as they are always on TV.
Imagine same for SA.

You forget Battle:LA and White House Down.

Re: Friday Numbers (05/29) To a certain degree, yes. Films such as 2012 and San Andreas play on a, "It could happen to you, and how would you and your family survive?" dynamic. People are at once afraid of and in love with speculative apocalypse scenarios. Terrorists invading the White House is much, much more specific. It is just an action-movie plot.
