Re: The Official Movie Release Date Schedule
I love the move as well. Still feel July is the best possible month for a Potter film. Max Midnights/OD/OW, the summer weekdays help to keep it stable, and it doesn't have to worry about any blockbuster films opening after it.

This really fucks over one of my most anticipated of next year; 2012. What can it do?

Charlie in 2005, HP5 in 2007, TDK in 2008, and now HP6 in 2009. Bat 3 in 2010 though hp 8 will break the trend with its may opening.

Charlie in 2005, HP5 in 2007, TDK in 2008, and now HP6 in 2009. It's really one of the strongest spots of the year, if not the strongest.

I wonder what this move will do to WB's chances of being the top market this year.

This move also really helps out Australia; what do you guys think it does to 2012's chances of being a big 200/550 ww hit like it was supposed?

Why is Australia getting a December release? I understand it is summer there, but still...6 months prior to the rest of the world...OUTRAGE..lol

Re: The Official Movie Release Date Schedule
Wow.
Yeah, I'm not even worried about '09 anymore. It's starting to shape up. '08 is big enough as it is, but '09 needed some sure hits. Plus, this expands the potential for Bond (by a little) and Madagascar II (by a lot). Plus, Bolt moving to November now? It's definitely going to do great in that spot.
On a side note, I was kinda excited for this film after seeing the teaser (moreso than the other Potter films, since I'm not a fan, really), so that kinda sucks. But, oh well.

Re: The Official Movie Release Date Schedule
It suck for potter fans to have to wait. LOL should read the comments on the Leaky page. I stopped reading after the first page. They all think its the end of the world or something. I hate having to wait but it really makes next summer a lot stronger.

Re: The Official Movie Release Date Schedule
Oh, and I don't see how this affects 2012, except for its legs. I mean, why is it going to open lower by opening before Potter? Hellboy II still opened to freakin' $34m a week before the biggest film of the decade; 2012 should do fine, opening weekend, at least.

The good and the bad: Good: I don't have to skip any unnecessary days this year to line up for HP. Which I like a lot. We get HP for 3 straight years, sexy. It may cross 300 NOW FINALLY!. Christ, its been so long. It helps its OD/MD/OW like Corpse said. The Bad: I DON"T WANT TO WAIT A YEAR PRACTICALLY.

dont see how TDK is to blame. Its easier to blame WB lack of movies for 09 which seems reasonable for them to schedule on that year

I agree with you though it is WB's poor scheduling for 2009 which is because of the strike.

WHERE'S MADGEZ WHEN YOU NEED HIM!!! ARG! Can't believe the Aussie is missing this monumental news. Asleep. This is monumental news. Probably the biggest since AWE moved to Memorial Day 07. This is the TDK of the release schedule thread. Im still Let me digest this on the drive to work and i'll post then. And Magnus - the studios must read this thread. Remember our "summer 09 needs one more tentpole" discussion a short while ago.... Watch other films move - maybe even Twighlight!

Good for its BO prospects, crappy for its potential quality. It's either not gonna be ready in time or WB is hoping its crappiness will be overlooked in summer blockbuster season.

Re: The Official Movie Release Date Schedule
It's mostly a financial move, sure, but it also makes me think that they're not convinced it can be ready in time for a winter release. That link Groucho posted in the other forum said that the writer's strike had something to do with it, so....
