with 4 updates left, and it being a night time movie, this looks good for talladega.

I'm seeing more like a $16 m opening day. I think Yahoo reviews will be in a similar situation as Cars, with some underestimation based solely on the reviews. I'm not sure if its a car/Nascar thing, but just a gut. But with crowd reports, I'm going to go with $15.5-16.5 m or so.

Hopefully Talladega's ratio won't be the same as Anchorman. If so, we could only be looking at a $10-12M day. I'd say $13-14M is more likely, though. As expected, Night Listener is a flop, The Descent isn't going to break out, and Barnyard could possibly see $4M tonight with a ratio of 75 or so.

For several months there were no horror-movie. Why people aren't going to see Descent? Good reviews, solid marketing(?) and it seems there won't be break out(10+ ow)... Doesn't make sense. Or it's simply not the time to release horror in the summer?

I don't think it's so much that the summer makes horror movies bomb as much as this weekend hurt due to Talladega Nights opening, cannibalizing the teenage audience. I know a LOT of people who are going to see Talladega Nights this weekend that would have definitely gone for The Descent instead if TN wasn't opening this weekend. I think July 14th would've been a better weekend for this.

I'm feeling a 95-110 ratio for Talladega Nights with around 1400 reviews. $14-15 million opening day, I'd guess. But it'll drop on Saturday, so it could still fail to reach $40 million for the weekend.

The only issue with July 14th is that combined You, Me, and Dupree and Little Man made more than TN will, thus perhaps having the same effect as one huge comedy. Plus, POTC 2 was still going really strong. Lionsgate should have been smart and released it the same weekend as The Break-Up (June 2nd), The Omen be damned. It would have had some time to itself to make money and generate WOM before The Omen kicked all ass on 6/6/06. The only reason I can see that Lionsgate didn't release it then was that they had just finished marketing See No Evil a few weeks prior and didn't think there was an appetite for another horror movie (which is wrong given the better than expected legs for SNE).

Nacho seems like a really good comparision to me. It had 115. However, this is clogged. Still around 100 like Click seems too low to me. I'll go with 13m just because of the crowd reports, but I think the numbers suggest something lower.
Descent might have about 2.8m. Barnyard - 3.8m. Night Listener - $800,000.

I'm gonna say:
Talladega Nights: 13.5 - 13.8 mil
Barnyard: 3.7 - 4.0 mil
The Descent: 2.4 - 2.7 mil
The Night Listener: 600,000 - 750,000

Talladega Nights - 1324, +78, B
The Night Listener - 139, +11, C+
Barnyard - 309, +10, B-
The Descent - 651, +30, 372 Friday, B
Just extended an hour to see given the late cloggedness. Seem unclogged at least some, if not most.
