Well cant say im not a bit dissapointed that KG didnt come down to the bay, if he stayed by his word that he didnt want to play in Boston i'm pretty sure we had the 2nd best offer from everything i've gathered. Supposedly McHale even contacted Mullin and asked him if he'd still consider adding Andris Biedrins to the mix (send Monta Ellis, Brandan Wright, Biedrins, and a big contract like Foyle for KG)

But Mullin would'nt budge and it was a smart move, without Biedrins handling the frontcourt with KG there would be no point in acquiring KG, especially in the much more competitive West. Boston had no reason not to give up all their complimentary players for KG though, because they didnt have to get rid of either of their superstars and the east is weak anyways. Even without Celtics having much depth they'll still easily become a top team in the east. The only problem is that 3 years down the road it wont be such a pretty sight, team will be over the lux tax and have 3 crippled players that are making a combined 55m.

Hmm, that offer is awful for Timberwolves. Foyle's contract basically erasing everything good from first three names in the mix. Which is also quite weak.

Plus, they'd have to take Harrington or Jackson as well. Defeats the purpose of rebuilding.

Doubt any serious talk was going on between them two.

Oh there definitely was, a deal fell through on draft night.

They wouldnt have to give any other big contract other then Foyle due to Warriors being able to give Wolves that trade exception they got from trading Jason Richardson.

Beans, Wright, and Ellis is a much better offer then Green and Jefferson. You can build a legit franchise team with those three, what have Green and Jerfferson proven? All Jefferson has done is put up meaningless stats on a really bad team, he's pretty much a Zach Randolph type player. Beans and Ellis contributed on a team that made the POs and are two of the top reasons why the team was able to make it into the POs and in Wright you got a player that many say other then Durant and Oden has the biggest potential from this years draft.

BTW, with W's deal, Minny wouldnt be over the Lux tax like they are right now.

Biedrins
Brewer
Foye
Ellis
Wright

shit, that team would truely compete with the Blazers and Sonics in a few years when they become dominate forces in the league, that right there would easily be the best young core of players in the league.

Post Re: NBA 2007-2008 season/offseason kilter
lots of things had to NOT happen for this TO happen...

1. Garnett turns them down the first time
2. loss of first pick made them able to trade it, so they could get
3. ray allen cause they couldnt get kevin garnett, but upon the addition of allen kg wanted to boston... so

-if KG comes immeadietly, no Ray Allen
-if celts get 1st pick, no kg or allen

worked out nicely id say

Yeah, I forgot about that trade exception. But not sure how trading that and rookie (Wright) actually works. Do they need to wait 60 days as well? Or can immidiatelly?

How can you say that? Screw Green, but Jefferson did prove more than those three combined. Putting meaningless stats on a bad team doesn't make them mediocre players. Jefferson was good, very good. And about the potentional, they are all still quite young, I have no doubts that Jefferson/Green will be more scary than Biedrins/Ellis/Wright down the line. And many many people would say that.

The other big thing Minny got from Boston was their number 1 pick back in 08, stupidly traded away in the Szerbiak deal a while ago I believe. Since the Wolves are almost a lock to be bottom 3 in the league next year, that'll be huge for them. Jefferson + No. 1 + Green + Gomes + expiring Ratliff contract is way better than that W's package.

It's better then the W's package that was offered, it's not better then the W's package that McHale wanted and would've taken over the Celtics package (which is Biedrins, Wright, and Ellis)

Nebs, what have Green and Jefferson proven? That they can help a team get to 20 wins in a season? Ellis was named most improved player and Biedrins was also in that running, both their breakthrough years their team ended up in the POs. Where was Al Jefferson in MIP? His stats went considerably up from last year, oh right, because it didnt help the team, that = meaningless stats. Again, Al Jefferson is pretty much Zach Randolph and if thats appealing to a team so be it, but you wont get far with that.

2006-07 NBA MOST IMPROVED PLAYER AWARD VOTING RESULTS

Player, Team 1st 2nd 3rd Pts
Monta Ellis, Golden State 47 37 15 352
Kevin Martin, Sacramento 44 38 15 349
Deron Williams, Utah 13 6 18 101
Tyson Chandler, New Orleans/OKC 6 11 9 72
Andris Biedrins, Golden State 8 4 12 64
Al Jefferson, Boston 2 13 13 62
Luol Deng, Chicago 2 7 13 44
Leandro Barbosa, Phoenix 3 3 0 24
Andre Iguodala, Philadelphia 1 2 3 14

Yeah, most people think a Green and Jefferson duo has more potential then Beans, Ellis, and Wright. Yeah f'in right.

FYI Jefferson is already talking about how he wants his new contract to start around 10m/yr and wants to sign an extension as soon as possible.

So word has it that Danny Ainge is trying to get 42 year old Reggie Miller to come back for a year to play with the Celtics. As much as I like Miller, I get the feeling it wouldn't quite work out well. Maybe Miller has something left in the tank that I'm not taking into consideration?

If that's true, than it's fairly obvious that Ainge wants to win immediately next year. They'd of course have to go out and pick up a free agent next year after Miller retires (Again) to fill that hole up (Hopefully someone in their mid to late 20's), but I guess for a year it could work. The people in Indiana I take it would be pissed though.

I was looking over the Vegas odds for next season, and was laughing/shocked at some of the stuff that came up

Dallas Mavericks
7/2

Phoenix Suns
7/2

San Antonio Spurs
4/1

Boston Celtics
5/1

Miami Heat
14/1

Cleveland Cavaliers
14/1

Denver Nuggets
22/1

Los Angeles Lakers
25/1

Utah Jazz
25/1

Portland Trailblazers
38/1

Toronto Raptors
38/1

I'm dropping some dough on those Utah odds. Probably $100-$150, but that still works out to $2500-$3750 for a win. Normally I'm against gambling, but man... :zonks: Gotta love superstar catering Vegas. Utah was the 4th best team in the league last year, and with SA having a habit of winning every odd year...

I would need at least 30/1 odds before even considering placing a bet on Utah Jazz.

Celtics signed James Posey today to a two-year $7 million deal. He played for the Heat for the past two years and won a title with them. So he's no Reggie Miller (Then again, who is?), but the Celtics are developing a somewhat decent bench for the three big guys.

I don't really know how it works that a team can sign a 3.5 mil/year contract when they're already over the cap(aren't you only allowed to get the minimum in that situation?), but whatever... good addition.

The Heat are getting raped this offseason. It's a lucky thing Wade already won his championship, because he's totally fucked for a while now.

Edit - Just read up on it, the 3.5 mil was possible because Boston was able to access and pay for it with next year's MLE. Now that's something I REALLY didn't know was allowed... Lol, what a weird system.

I really wanted to see Posey in the Bay for Pietrus, pretty solid sign for Celtics. I mean I dont know if thats particually what they should be looking for at this point, but it's a good sign for the contract offered.

MLE is there every year, not sure what you see as weird...?

No I originally thought I read somewhere that they were able to effectively "borrow" some of the MLE they'll spend a year from now, because this year's wasn't enough... except that never happened, they just used this one. Just got words mixed up.

Heh, I think I know what you might have read...

Quote:
By this afternoon, the sides had reached agreement on a deal that will pay Posey just over $3 million - the amount left on the team’s mid-level exception - next season.

Weird wording. ;)

Oden lost for season:

Quote:
Greg Oden , the Portland Trail Blazers' No. 1 pick in the 2007 NBA Draft, will miss the 2007-2008 season after knee surgery on Thursday, two league sources told Yahoo! Sports.

Oden, the 7-footer out of Ohio State, underwent exploratory surgery on his right knee on Thursday in Vancouver. The extent of the damage was not immediately clear, but Oden, one of the most celebrated young players in years, will be lost for the season.

The Blazers are expected to make an announcement shortly.

I really can't believe this. Like, I refuse to. How can this happen? How? And more importantly, WHY? Why the Blazers, after all they've been through? Why Greg Oden, who is one of the nicest, coolest NBA players I've ever seen?

I'll be spending the rest of the day listening to The Verve and Google imaging Kevin Durant.
