Watching some summer league games..... Marco Bellineli (W's first round pick) was on fire, dude can shoot. Best player in the SL so far.

Yeah I've been watching a bit too
Oden has 19 fouls in 2 games, haha.

I kind of like Yi so far. After both games he's had some real nice highlights and moves. Think he's probably a better pick than Jeff Green to say the least.

Balkman has a knack in neutralizing future possible superstars...first Durant, who had something like 5-19 night, and today Yi. Rookies are pretty great as well, Chandler with all around game, and Nichols with sweet shooting touch. Something Knicks need.
Btw, Lewis will get something around $126.4m for 6 years from Orlando.
Just flat out crazy.

Man, can't believe I'll be on the road on FA day... boo. The Lewis thing is so funny I don't know where to start. I don't believe it's true though, it's too dumb. 15 a year was already dumb enough, this is on a different plateau.
Oh, and Portland bought out Francis. Why, I don't know. Oden/Roy/Alderidge are still young as hell, might as well have a veteran on there for his two more years to stabalize them and teach them while they learn, and to help them not suck balls in the meantime. Adding to that they paid him 30 mil, meaning they save only a couple each year... meaning they gave up Randolph for jack all. Guess Blazers just want another high draft pick next year.

The Rashard Lewis deal might be the worst in the history of the NBA. He plays zero defense, doesn't get any boards, and is really only a shooter. Congrats Magic, you just got 20 ppg and 5 boards for $126 million. God this is worse than the Allan Houston max deal, who atleast got the Knicks to a finals.

Darko to the Grizzlies. I think Memphis will have a better record than Portland and Seattle next year.

My brother worked the Vince Carter signing today. He's an intern with the Nets. I wish he would've told them how much of a mistake the contract was.

Up to today, I thought tHouston Rockets had the best off-season of any NBA team and will be the #1 seed in the West. With Steve Francis's signng, I'm not so sure anymore as he will cost them some losses.

Garnett's going to Boston... for their entire supporting cast
Quote: Celtics agree to acquire Garnett for four players, draft pick July 30, 2007 CBS SportsLine.com wire reports BOSTON -- Kevin Garnett is leaving Minnesota after the Boston Celtics agreed to acquire the All-Star forward in a multiplayer trade with the Timberwolves, a Celtics official told the Associated Press on Monday.
Advertisement Among the players who could be headed to Minnesota are forward Al Jefferson, guard Sebastian Telfair, swingman Gerald Green and center Theo Ratliff, said the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because the deal had not been completed. The official also said the Timberwolves would get at least one draft choice.
The teams still had some things to clarify with the players' contracts, but the official said that would not keep the Celtics from acquiring Garnett, although there could be a change in the players ticketed for the Timberwolves.
There was a chance that a conference call announcing the trade would be held Monday, the official said.
Garnett, 31, has spent all of his 12 NBA seasons with Minnesota. He would get an extension of his contract, which has one year plus an option year remaining, the official said.
The Celtics had tried to get Garnett late last month, but his agent said he didn't want to go to Boston.
Since then, Boston acquired seven-time All-Star guard Ray Allen from Seattle in a draft day deal. Already with Paul Pierce, the Celtics would become instant contenders in the mediocre Atlantic Division with Garnett, even without promising forward Jefferson.
The Celtics obtained Allen and the 35th pick of the draft for guards Delonte West and Wally Szczerbiak, and forward Jeff Green of Georgetown, whom they drafted with the fifth pick.
The Celtics have won just three playoff series during Pierce's nine years with them. They still have an NBA-record 16 championships, but none since 1986.
"They have no excuses, this team out there," Danny Ainge, the executive director of basketball operations, said after Allen was acquired.
Pierce, 29, led the Celtics in scoring last season but played only 47 games because of injury.
Allen, who turns 32 next month, averaged a career-high 26.4 points last season, his 11th, but underwent surgery to remove bone spurs on both ankles that required him to wear protective boots. He is expected to be ready for training camp.

Thoughts -
The Raps don't have any pressure to repeat their division title now, it won't look so bad if we drop to 44-45 wins and get a 6th seed or something. We're gonna be around with this nucleus for 10 years and long after Boston and NJ's teams get old anyways, so I don't mind.
I actually kind of like the deal for Boston. If it was just Pierce + Garnett, that wouldn't be enough, but with Allen they probably have a good a chance as anyone in the next couple years to win the east. Jefferson is gone... but I think he's been just a bit overrated as a prospect, he's not going to be an MVP in a few years or anything.
Boston's supporting cast sucks balls. But whatever.
So so deal for Minnesota. They needed to get Jefferson and the Celts draft pick before the Allen deal went down, now they have good filler, but they'll still suck balls for a while.

It only took trading half the team and one of my favorite players in Al Jefferson, but the Celtics have three all-stars on the team for the first time since the 1980's.
Now we just need to find another bench somewhere.

Jefferson, Gomes, Telfair, Green, Ratliff *and* two first round picks? I'm scared of them next year, but they'll be in pretty shitty position in 2-3 years.
And what if Garnett opts out after this season? Ouch, so much for one year rental...

I don't know... I'm not sold. At best this makes the Celtics a first round playoff loser. They really only have 3 guys on the team and then there is a massive drop off after that. Pierce, Allen, and Garnett are not going to carry a team very far by themselves... plus, I'd be amazed if all 3 make it through an entire season injury free.

And what if Garnett opts out after this season? Ouch, so much for one year rental... Besides Jefferson, the kicker to the deal is that Garnett signs an extension. Without that, the Celtics wouldn't make the deal. Seeing as the deal has not been 100% finalized, this could be the hold-up. TonyMontana wrote: I don't know... I'm not sold. If the deal goes through, the Celtics would have...
Paul Pierce, Ray Allen, Kevin Garnett (Here comes the dropoff), Rajon Rondo, Brian Scalabrine, Tony Allen, Glen Davis and Leon Powe. Clearly if they make this deal, they have to go get a couple of more bench players, but they don't have to be anyone overly exciting. They can either make some minor deals or go look and see what's left on the market.

I wonder how much cap room they'll have left after this to sign anybody else? I would think Garnett, Pierce, and Allen would eat up almost all of it by themselves!
I do miss the Celtics being good, so I hope they do something. I remember the good old days in the late 80s when the Pistons and Celtics used to go at it like mad... those were good times.

Yep, I've seen the clips on YouTube and old NBA tapes. Those are awesome to watch, especially any play that involved Bill Laimbeer. I also can't get enough of this clip, even though I wasn't even born when it happened.

The only time I've ever heard the "Fleet/Garden" get close to being that loud is during the Eastern Conference finals when the Celtics made the comeback against the Nets. It'd be great to hear again.
One thing I forgot to mention though. The Celtics are really only giving up three players in this deal (Jefferson, Gomes and Green). Telfair and Ratliff are the NBA's version of "waste of space". So when you look at the trade this way, although the bench remains limited, it's still a good trade.
Edit: Here's another video.

The trade has just been finalized, and the Celtics have agreed to a 3-year extension with Garnett.

Excel KG #5He needs a new number though. #30 and #36-#39 are available and I think would work better on him. #5 just brings up old memories of Ron Mercer. And just for the record. 1. Pistons 2. Celtics 3. Cavaliers It'll be a three-way race for #1 though, especially if the Celtics get some complimentary players for the big three.

 Re: NBA 2007-2008 season/offseason kilter
A couple of days ago, the Celtics signed Eddie House and Jackie Manuel. They don't exactly set the world on fire especially after Garnett, and don't put them anywhere closer to being over the top than they were a couple of days before that, but House should help somewhat.
