Pujols didn't play, even with bases loaded, weird. With two outs in the 9th, it's hard to just tie the game there since Pujols doesn't hit infield singles; it would either be an out or a hit and 2 RBIs. No need to save him for extra innings.

Quote: Hafner will sign four-year, $57 million extension with Indians on Thursday Posted by Paul Hoynes July 11, 2007 19:10PM Categories: Breaking News, Indians
Travis Hafner is staying in Cleveland for a while. The Indians' designated hitter has come to terms on a four-year, $57 million contract extension that will keep him in Cleveland through 2012.
The deal will be announced Thursday afternoon. File photoTravis Hafner
Progress reportedly was made over the All-Star break on a multi-year deal. Negotiations had been tabled in April, but were reopened over the break with the approval of Shapiro and Scott Parker, Hafner's agent with Legacy Sports Group in San Francisco. The two sides negotiated by phone over the break.
Hafner's contract for this year was increased, and his club option for 2008 was picked up and also increased. The last four years of the contract will be for an estimated $48 million, with the breakdown $11 million per season in 2009 and 2010; and $13 million per season in 2011 and 2012.

You're not the only one. Apparently ratings were down by 10% this year. Unlike the NHL, I have no idea why though. Maybe San Fransisco wasn't flashy enough or something? I highly doubt that's the reason though.

The Yankees are officially at .500!! Next stop AL East Champs.
Seriously though, if the Yanks can go on a huge win streak to start the second half of the year, they still have a shot at the wild card. And with Hughes coming back anything is possible.

My impressions on the All-Star game is that it is extremely boring every year. It should not count for anything based on the simple fact that no one playing or coaching (La Russa) really cares about it.

Sox win
Blue Jays lose
Yankees win
Yanks move into second place and the Jays to third, but everything pretty much stays the same.

arod to sox?
Id welcome him, one condition:
WE DONT LOSE MANNY.
Arod is nasty for sure and do great at Fenway, but in the playoffs he sucked (Mannys ws MVP even thoughj Foulke deserved it) and when he goes in those slumps Espn says Sox cant get Arod without losing Manny next season, but I have a simple solution.
1. Get rid of Drew or Preferably Lugo, if not both. Do what you do for Edgar Renteria. Trade em away for nothing, just get rid of their salaries.
Lugo makes 9 million a year n Drew 12. Lose em both that is 19 million a season. Arod wants 20-25. Put Arod back at short, and keep mike lowell (resign him, though he wont need much more then 10, which i believe is close to what hes making now). Move Jacobey Elsbury to right; that way we can keep Cocoa instead of getting rid of him like some have mentioned, and let him develop. Hes a prime centerfielder n is improving a lot with the bat.
Another guy well lose is Schilling. Hes old; and pretty out of shape. Hes been decent this year but as of late struggled. If he doesnt comer back in top form, I unfortunatly expect him to go. Gabbard would take his spot perminetly next year, or (hopefully) john lester; who could be needed if we lose Tavarez.
-Drew=12 milion
-Lugo=9 million
-Schilling=14 million
thats 35 million in spending money. resign lowell to 10 million, sign arod to 20-25. You can bump Manny when his contracts up afer next season, unless he does well. Next season will be a money maker for him as is, as he will be getting his 500th home run next season (unless he gets his ass in gear) and hell be going to the hall of fame as a Red Sock, and he is very important in the lubhouse, especially if your bringing a guy like Arod who people like Vtek might not get along with.
it be like this
rotatio/predictions
1. Becket- 22-6
2. Dice k-21-4 (will see a becket-sized improvement next year over this year he will be FILTHY)
3. Wake 16-8
4. Lester - 16-8 dpitched well didnt make iot past the 6th in most starts
5. Gabbard...has done decent in Schillings spot.
then in the bullpen, you let guys like timlin, tavarez n co. go (they make 40-5 million a year as well, compared to the sub 1 million slaaries of the young guys, so thats even more spending $$$) and bring up the youngsters like craig hansen n manny delcarmen, and have Papelbon as the closer.
Line up.
1. Coca Crisp - CF
2. Dustin Pedroia-2nd Base
3. Arod - SS
4. Big Papi - DH
5. Manny - LF
6. Youk- 1b
7. Lowell- 3b
8. Tek- Catcher
9. Jacobey Elsbury - RF
SOUNDS VERY NICE, INDEED!

One problem with that though - they're still paying a portion of Renteria's contract. Why? Yes the Sox pretty much got nothing in return, but the only reason why the Braves accepted that trade was because the Sox are still paying for the contract. They didn't just dump him. Quote: -Drew=12 milion -Lugo=9 million -Schilling=14 million
thats 35 million in spending money. I'd say it's about $15 million and change. They'd have to do the same thing they did to Renteria in order to get rid of those two. Quote: rotatio/predictions 1. That rotation doesn't win you jack shit, especially since with A-Rod's departure, the Yankees will have a lot more money to spend freely.
You have a solid 1-2 punch, but you need a third guy there, and Wake, Lester or Gabbard are not that guy. Lester in two years or say, maybe. Wake is 40 and might not be here next year. As for Gabbard, with the exception of the one start in Seattle, he gives you a solid five innings and nothing more. That's perfect for a #4 or #5, but not a number three.
I agree with letting Schilling go though. The Sox are very good at noticing when a player is on the decline (Johnny Damon) and I think they will do the same thing here. I think Schilling believes that he has their balls in a vice, but I think it's the other way around. I think Damon thought the same thing.
--
I would like to have A-Rod on the team, and the Sox will pursue him seeing as Luccino is absolutely in love with him. That saying, I don't think they should bend over backwards for him. The most important tasks they have to pull off in the offseason, is find another starting pitcher, get some bullpen help, and get a backup catcher. Varitek is 35 going on 36. He's not going to be catching for much longer - three years at most.

I would gladly get rid of Manny to get A-Rod.
Manny has absolutely NO hustle. It's like he just wants to bat and get it over with.

There's no trade possible though unless it happens during this season. It's either Manny/A-Rod for 1-year (With an option for two - Manny's contract), A-Rod stays with the Yankees, or A-Rod goes to Anaheim. The highest bidder wins, and right now I think it's Anaheim. They're desperate for offense, and they have to have some money to spend since besides Guerrero, they have no high salary contracts.
The Red Sox would make that trade in a heartbeat, but since A-Rod is the only thing keeping New Yorkers entertained, I highly doubt the Yankees are going to make a move. Besides, when was the last time the Red Sox and Yankees made a trade? And when was the last time it worked out well for the Red Sox?

He pitched a great game tonight.............against the Royals. If he can throw six innings plus consistently, then he deserves to remain in the rotation the rest of the year.
It was good to see Ortiz and Manny get going again. I can't even remember the last time both players hit a home run in the same game. If those two start to heat up, the Red Sox will be in pretty good shape.

And this is when you start to miss Schilling. Even though the Red Sox are still up by 8 games, tomorrow night's game against the Royals is a somewhat important one. First to get back above .500 on the homestand and because it's a game against the Royals who suck. Then you've got the White Sox coming into town and although they're nine games under .500, they'll probably be a pain in the ass.
And then there are the Yankees and Blue Jays. Following the final game of the four set on Thursday, the Yanks have the Devil Rays coming into town. That's at least two wins right there. Toronto meanwhile has the Mariners to deal with. My guess is that series will spell the beginning of the end for the Blue Jays, if not the end.
So despite the fact that they're 8 up in the division and 19 above .500, the Red Sox need to start playing above .500 again.

A Braves/Reds matchup isn't exactly my idea of great baseball, but I have to say that today's game has been entertaining.

The bizzare part though is that besides Schilling, no one is injured. They just aren't getting timely hitting while the Yankees are. The good news is that they'll still be seven up, but for how long?

Toronto finally offers up some help as they finally beat the Yanks today. Hopefully the Red Sox were paying attention and can take advantage of this with Matsuzaka on the mound. It's also important for the Red Sox to get the series off on a good note since they've been struggling as of late. If they get going against the White Sox while the Yankees I'm sure are going to get going and take 3/4 from Tampa (They'll lose one of the games in the doubleheader), hopefully things will be stable. Then again, maybe Tampa surprises in a couple of the games.

To sum things up: The Red Sox are the worst team in baseball right now with a division lead. Hopefully at this point they can end July above .500 (7-9 so far) and get things going. The offense needs to wake up badly though. Well not so much the offense, but timely hitting. 11 hits tonight and they only score 2 runs. Same thing happened on Sunday against the Blue Jays and two nights ago against the Royals. That's just sad.

2 times as many hits as the white sox but half as many runs?
Im getting fed up; but if they can stay healthy, a tear is indeed in the waiting...
