Atlantic Division is gonna be a beast next year. Rangers, Penguins, Flyers, Devils all have a chance at winning it.

What a crazy day. Still no news on Smyth, though...

What a joke. Our captain? Really? For fuckin' Geoff Sanderson. Bullshit.

That's kind of like the Joe Thornton trade. Not as bad, but similar.

Well, we get Pitkanen at least, the defenceman we needed. But we lose our captain!

Lowe better be gearing up to re-sign Smyth. That's all I'm gonna say.

And there goes Drury and Gomez.

I just love how the Bruins are sitting on their ass during all of this while the surrounding Eastern Conference teams get better and better (Minus Buffalo who will really suck next year). Yes they traded for Manny Fernandez, but they have other gigantic holes to fill. As much as I like Bergeron, Murray and Sturm, they need another goal scorer badly.

Maybe they'll go after Emery now and try for a fourth goaltender who could maybe score goals for them as well.

Holy cow, wtf is wrong with the Oilers? Did the entire lineup rape Kevin Lowe's grandma? Jason Smith and Ryan Smyth... gone. I'm officially off the bandwagon.

Buffalo is a one year wonder. Sad.

Well Ryan Smyth signed with the Colorado Avalanche.

FUCK EDMONTON SUCKS.

Oh well, hopefully they'll stay bad for a couple years so they can have a shot at John Tavares.

And whoa, Kariya to the Blues (Nashville continues to be in WTF mode), and Jason Blake to the Leafs.

Sykora goes to the Penguins.

A rumor has Nylander going to the Oilers. That would be a waste.

What a joke the Oilers have become.

Nylander signs with the Caps. Phew.

Oilers are gonna have like a $30 million payroll next year. The whole team will be devoid of veterans.

A few new signings:

Hamrlik to Montreal
Lang to Chicago
Bertuzzi to Anaheim (!)

It's certainly been a couple of crazy days...

Pretty sure that means Neidermayer is done. Ducks wouldn't be looking for more oomph after steamrolling the playoffs.

Apparently the Oilers got screwed on the Nylander deal:

http://tsn.ca/headlines/news_story/?ID=212659

My guess is that Nylander saw which way the Oilers were heading and backed out. I don't blame him; I wouldn't want to play for them either. Still, though, this seems unfair.

The Oilers are turning out to be the talk of the off-season...

They offered Sabres winger Thomas Vanek, restricted free-agent, a seven-year $50 million offer sheet, which Buffalo quickly matched. I guess Kevin Lowe isn't afraid to play gutsy this year. My only problem with this is why were they willing to pay Vanek this much money and not pay Smyth slightly less than this? Hmm...

There was no doubt that Buffalo was gonna match, though, after losing Briere and Drury, but Lowe was just pandering to the fans, I think.

When are the people who are running the TD Banknorth Garden going to realize that by having the circus in town on the week the NHL season opens, they're automatically giving the Bruins a potentially horrible start? Their schedule has just been released and for another consecutive year, they have to open up on the road for a five game road trip. This time it's on the west coast.

Just once I would love for the Bruins to open the season with a home game.

Liar!

I'm guessing they lost all of them, because I would've remembered at least one of them. Still though, two consecutive years of opening up on the road with a five game road trip is a pain in the ass.

Well to be fair to you, right after those home games, they went on 5+ away games.

I knew it! They really need to move the circus to a new venue or have them come into Boston in early September when no one is using the building.

The Oilers signed Sheldon Souray to a five-year deal today.

This is excellent news, though it makes the deal for Pitkanen looks kinda unnecessary. Still, our defense is rock-solid now. As for our offense, though...

Oilers are at it again...

They signed restricted free agent Anaheim F Dustin Penner to a five year $21 million offer sheet. Anaheim has six days left to match the offer. Not sure if they will, they have a lot less cap space then Buffalo did. At least Lowe's doing something, though the last young forward to come from Anaheim didn't turn out to well for us.

Patriots get Randy Moss, Adalius Thomas and Dante Stalworth
Celtics get Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen
Red Sox get Eric Gagne

And the Bruins? They do nothing.

Hockey is dead in Boston. Thank god the Celtics got Allen and Garnett (Possibly Reggie Miller??) because the TD Banknorth Garden would've been a ghost town this year.

So apparently both Ottawa and Vancouver have an interest in signing Peter Forsberg, with the latter using Markus Naslund as an attempt to draw him in. I have to say I'm surprised that Forsberg is still on the market, injury-prone or not, after all the kerfuffle surrounding him leading up to the trade deadline last year. He probably won't play more than 50-60 games next year but he's still a big player for whatever team wants him, and he probably won't be worth more than a couple million.

Canada won again this morning in the junior Summit Series, giving them a 3-0 lead overall. Cherepanov is out for the series now as well. Wouldn't it be something if they won 8-0?

A week and a half until the season officially starts, with the back-to-back Ducks/Kings games in London, but it's more like two weeks until it really starts. I'm gonna make predictions in the coming days, can't wait for the season to start! :2thumbsup:

Is there anyone else who's gonna discuss with me or am I just gonna talk to myself?

Me.

MacTavish has been rolling Gagner out on the first line so far in training camp/pre-season. I don't know how to feel about it, it's mostly negative negative both ways. On one hand I think it's too early to put him up there, but Horcoff clearly sucked balls last year and almost deserves demoting. Best situation is Horcoff realizes his position is in jeopardy and gets motivated to be good again.
