Being spanked by Fed at the Australian wasn't enough? Roddick was supposed to be the future of men's American tenns, and if that is the case, the future is bleak Squeeks wrote: Blake has never won a 5-set match. That uhhh.... is not going to get you places.
Blake's basically reached his peak as a player, he's a lesser Todd Martin, which is to bad, I like him, but at least Martin could pull out the five setters.

I liked Todd Martin. I even rooted for him against Agassi when he was making one of his good US open runs.

I think he took that final to 5 as well.
Not sure if that was the year he had the 5 setter with Rusedski or with Moya, either way those night matches were entertaining.

Todd Martin was awesome, unfortunately for him he rose during the Sampras, Agassi, and Chang years. He's was a really goodplayer and a good guy, but not in their league, it would have been nice to see him do better, but I loved watching his matches, he had so many great 5 setters.
I like James Blake, but he inability to win a five setter, I think he has a less then stellar record n tiebreaks just suggests he cannot close matches. He so destined to be at best a tp ten player, and given the dominance of Federer and Nadal, there is no place form to carve out a niche.

The guy honestly would have at least 2 or maybe even 3 Wimbeldon titles without Federer.
And I will say this: By the end of the year 2008, A-Rodd will have at least one more major championship in his hand.
If Federer gets knocked out early, it's possible. I think he can beat everyone else on tour. Not every time or anything, but he's capable of it.

I dunno. The last person to beat Federer in a non-clay major is Safin in 2005 if I'm not mistaken, which is quite a while ago. Federer wasn't as amazing as he is today, and that couple weeks was the best Safin ever played, where he used his anger and emotional outburst to make himself better, he was a beast there.
Roddicks game is way too basic to beat him, so yeah I'd say the only way he can is if somebody flukes out on Federer before ARodd meets him. Or if Federer's mom dies the day before the tournament starts or something, and he withdraws.

Haas has withdrawn from the tournament, giving Federer the first quarterfinal spot.

Because the commentators talked about him like the second coming of christ, even when he sucks, let's nto forget about his early exits from majors.
He's won one major, and not done a whole lot else, his game has not shown any growth or any sign that he is ever going to challenge Federer or anyone for a title, why should I care about him.
Safin at least, when he decides to actually play tennis has the ability to beat Federer, Roddick has been all hype to me. When he was working with Gilbert, he seemed to be on track to trying to at least make a rivarly with Federer, but since then its like he's not playing at all. And they talked about Roddick all the time, moreso then Federer or Nadl, hell for awhile last year Roddick was ranked below Blake, you wouldn't know it. Roddick gets the press coverage of someone who wins majors, till he wins some I will see him as hype and not much else.
Also, Patrick McEnroe talks about Roddick with such love, I'm pretty sure he wants to blow him. Bjorg could be on court playing a dead Arthur Ashe, and Patrick would talk about Roddick.

I really need Arsi here to back up my opinion of Federer.
He reminds me of the Lennox Lewis situation in so many ways.

It's because we're watching American coverage.

They talked about Sampras less then the talk about Roddick, yeah I went there.
Part of my dislike of Roddick has nothing to do with him, but when I watch a Nadal match, I'd like to discuss Nadal, and talk about Roddick like he's the greatest thing since sliced bread when he hasn't won anything in forever.
Roddick has on occasion given good interviews, particularly when he got his ass kicked. I've just never warmed to him.

I believe you. It's because there were more good Americans then, and ratings in the US were very good for the Men's side.
Now, all we have is Roddick, thus ratings are going down, because for some reason americans only care about other americans, so they are trying to hype up roddick to get americans interested.

I'm really hating that occasional picture in picture of Richard Williams while play is in progress.
I'm waiting to see Daniela break down in tears at some point during this third set.

I bet he's very upset he didn't put that match point away on Sunday. He didn't miss by much. Still on serve in the 5th.
Play suspended for the day with a handful of matches getting completed.
Henin/Williams is the last match on Centre court tomorrow - I am looking forward to it, but it will most likely be ppd due to rain.

Jankovic and Mauresmo out just like that. Playing Vaidisova was bad luck for the latter, she's had her number before and I don't know she was ranked so low, I've had her as a top ten worthy player all year. I can't help but feel Amelie is nearing the end of her rope though, doesn't seem to be as competitive lately. Can't keep up. I don't have her winning another major anytime soon.
Tomorrow should be a pretty good day for tennis, as long as it doesn't rain. Lots of good matches.

Malisse had that cute facial hair, the ponytail, he was hot, not as hot a Rafter to me, but hot nonetheless.
I always found Ivanisevic really attractive, I adored him as player as well, but I would marry him in an instant.

1 Williams wins, 1 Williams loses.
4th Round:
V. Williams [23] USA d. M. Sharapova [2] RUS 6-1 6-3
Venus destroyed Maria in the first set, and there was some quality tennis in the second, but Venus was just too powerful in the match, she's looking strong to make the final. Venus now faces Svetlana Kuznetsova in the Quarter-Finals tomorrow.
Quarter-Final
J. Henin [1] BEL d. S. Williams [7] USA 6-4 3-6 6-3
Serena's movement seemed pretty good so if she wasn't playing at 100% it was at least 80-90%, Justine's first serve really sucked (46%) and I'm kind of surprised she won with that kind of stat. She was close to giving it away in the third being up 5-1 and a double break, allowing Serena to gain one back before closing it out. Justine now faces Marion Bartoli in the Semifinals Friday and looks pretty likely to book a place in the final on Saturday.

*scratches beard* I've been growing this thing for 2 weeks now. It is gloriously patchy.
