The movie is by Ridly Scott and that alone allows me to get my hopes up, and tends to peak my interest.

The man does wonders creating drama, tension, and love between his characters.

I think this movie will be what Troy SHOULD have been. And I don't think an opening of 40 million is out of the question. I think you can count on this to make 100 million. Really it will all rely on advertising and reviews. I believe that it will do fairly well criticly, and approach a 75-80% positive ratio.

We shall have to wait and see, but I really think this COULD potentially be a 200 million hit, barely.

I think: 17/54

Agree with Mary that it will be the lowest grossing of the three movies opening that weekend.

Review from AICN:

Quote:
Vertigo chimes in with the first review anywhere of Ridley Scott's KINGDOM OF HEAVEN!!!
Hey folks, Harry here with a film I'm dying to see next year... Ridley Scott's KINGDOM OF HEAVEN!!! Ridley's return to the super-epic - with a fantastic cast. From folks on the inside, I can tell you the word on this film has been spectacular. That this review, with SPOILERS btw, gives the movie an 8.5 at it's full on 3 hour + cut... and mentions a couple of dragging moments that will either be excised or given proper speed by getting the final score in place. This is definitely one of the ones to watch for in 2005! Here ya go...

Heya Harry.

Me and the gal pal were going to the movies to see Blade Trinity when I noticed that a line was forming off to the side and everyone was holding yellow slips of paper. Being the curious fellow I am, I approached one of the numerous suits walking around handing out the papers and he told me they were having a Test Screen for a new movie that was UNTITLED, developed by a major production studio and slated for Summer 2005 release. He asked if we were interested in participating... duh.

We got in line and speculation was screaming around us, everything fro STAR WARS to CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY. After about 30 minutes of waiting, were were allowed to enter the theater when they announced they wouldn't allow anyone in that had picture phones... I was getting excited!

Just before the film, a suit gets up and says that the movie we were about to see just finished being edited and has some technical flaws (never mind those) and that we were the first people to ever see the cut.

After the film I did some research on the net at imdb.com and found the movie "KINGDOM OF HEAVEN". The movie was 3 hours and had tons of gory action, intense drama and a romance story for good measure. The action was great and the acting was superb. I know that they will not keep the 3 hour running time because the movie had a few times where it really dragged along.

The review continues and gives spoilers which I did not read at the link:

With "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" and "Monster-in-Law", I don't think that this movie will have more than $25 milion opening weekend......

Orlando Bloom doesn't look like so much of a weed in this movie

I'll see this, no doubt. Though I have a deep hatred for Orlando Bloom, I'm a sucker for epic movies and also Ridley Scott. Box office wise, I don't think it'll make over $100 million. I see a little more than King Arthur numbers.

Opening: $22.5 million
Total: $60.8 million

Orlando Bloom is lead, jeez lets just give all the actors who dont deserve lead in epic movies that cost over 100mil a shot at it. Has he ever even been lead in any movie? I dont see how he has even proven himself as a good actor, and I dont see this movie changing that for him.

Orlando Bloom sucks. The only reason they put him in movies is because the girls love him.

Yeah but alot of girls arent really into these type of movies, plus it could be rated R. He should be doing romantic comedies or something.

Troy's success was partially because of starpower. There were a lot of females in my theater, atleast.

All the epics have there love storys.

Braveheart
Gladiator
Troy
Pearl Harbor
Gangs of New York
This movie

Orlando Bloom will attract ladies just as much as Brad Pitt did. Maybe even moreso because with Scott at the helm this is sure to have a better love story than Troy did. I would think Braveheart type love story.

Regardless, this movie will rock. 5 months away!

There was alot of older women in my theater, I dont know exactly how many of them came to see Orlando Bloom , Troy wasnt really such a success in the states, but the money it did make had alot to do with hype more then anything else. I wouldnt say Brad Pitt is sucgh a big BO draw, the rest of the cast is not really something you would say are BO draws either.

There's no way this is another Alexander. Alexander stank a year off and was a joke in many obvious ways. Do you see Angelina Jolie in this? or any drunken irishmen with poorly made blonde wigs?

I expect KoH to make about 110-140 million. Which is not big by summer movie standards but far from a bomb.

If you want me to compare it to another movie, it really reminds me of Excalibur, which made a moderate amount and went on to become respected on video.

Hopefully Hitchhikers will do better. Not because I wish ill on KoH though, just I love HHGTTG books. :)

I, too, havea feeling everyone is predicting it to flop out of hatred for Bloom. You guys are all just teenagers who can't stand him, cuz all the girls wanna get suma him

But, seriously. I think it will make over 100m. :D

I like Orlando Bloom, but I think that he doesn't has enough star power to open the picture..... Maybe his star power is even less than Colin Farrell.

NED KELLY bombs badly in US. THE CALCIUM KID was a terrible box office flop in UK, and Universal have no plan to release this movie in US.

It's the first weekend of May. It WILL open higher than $30 million.

Yeah, but XXX2 is opening before it. Still, I'll raise the prediction: 38/95

Surely the legs will be better than that :( I think if this can pull off an opening north of $30million a total of $100million should be assured.

Lord of the rings is Fantasy epics. Kingdom of Heaven is "Historical war epics" .

Troy, Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World, The Last Samurai and King Arthur proves that "Historical war epics" is a tough sell in US.

[Tough sell] genre + [not big enough] star power+ Rated R = ....

However, I think that this movie would gross more than $200 million oversea.
