Yeah, Gonzo has always been a player capable of great things off his forehand side, he just hasn't had the string of good matches in a GS like he has at this AO. I think he'll be in the final.

3.30 AM EST is so far away.

Hingis needs to beef up and hit the gym. She's as good of a retourner and as smart as anyone, but return is all she can do. Tennis is now 90% a power game, Clijsters smashed balls through her.

If Gonzo can get past Haas then he has a great chance against Federer or Roddick. He's no longer just slamming the ball risking that 50/50 chance. He is more calculating and holds back for the right moment. He's on a roll. He made both Blake and Nadal look average.

Tonight's Fed vs Roddick looks to be a blockbuster. Same with the women's lineup which is strong.

Womens Final:

M. Sharapova RUS [1] v . S. Williams USA

How they got there:

S. Williams USA d. N. Vaidisova CZE [10] 7-6 6-4
M. Sharapova RUS [1] d. K. Clijsters BEL [4] 6-4 6-2

Kim should just take the day off at not play semifinals against big name opponents, because she just doesn't win. She also very rarely makes it competitive, it's kind of sad to watch.

So the final is a rematch of an 05 AO Semi, where Serena saved 3 match points against Sharapova. I would give the slight edge to Serena with this one, but I don't think we saw where Sharapova's game is really at with Kim's crappy performance in thier semi.

I'm still always surprised when Maria dominates matches like this. I've always found her game to be a bit... brutish? I mean she has the least athletic game of any top tennis player, men or woman, when you look at Clijsters or Hingis or something, they're running and rallying, while Maria is just a big 6 foot stick running across the court, smashing it everywhere. The most attractive player(well... for the media) plays the ugliest game for sure.

Serena vs her should be good though. Nice rematch from Wimbledon.

So I think this Federer guy might go somewhere in the sport.

Because...WOW, I don't think I've thought 'That isn't fair' so many times during a match before. Every winner in the 2-0 game in the second set was amazing, especially that little flick of the wrist when the ball was at his feet. The amount of times Federer was near the doubles alley on the baseline and hit a looping cross court pass was hard to imagine, considering his court position.

6 games, Roddick took 6 games in three sets off the man. I like Federer's chances in the finals.

Yeah that was amazing - bordering on ridiculous. How he got some of those shots in i cant believe. It was a scary display!

I know, I mean I almost felt bad for Roddick, it must be demoraling to lose in that fashion. I don't think Roddick will ever be able to be a serious threat to Federer.

R-fed is the best and most dominate athelete today, fuck tiger woods.when this year ends fed will be considered by most to be the greatest tennis player ever.I expect him to win 3 grand slams with a good at winning all 4, french open is the only one i have doubts with but he's showing he's getting better and better on clay.
Andy Roddick looked like he was going to cry, it was like watching a parent abuse their child.

My goodness; that's just ridiculous. The way Federer played the second set is unreal, even by his standard, and he made it look like routine. Especially that third game of the second set, when he hit four winners, returning every ball at will. I mean, you can't hit winners against him when he is at that level. If people didn't catch the game late last night, you should today when ESPN replayed it. Words can't describe the kind of shots Federer can make under any circumstances.

Here's a Youtube link to that third game in the second set:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4rIiUNo_Bks

On the court, I'm not a huge fan of Roddick's attitude, but off the court he never ceases to make laugh, from his press conference after the match:
Quote:
Q. Can you just take us from 4‑All on. Up to 4‑4, you're in the match. Then you got broken.

ANDY RODDICK: Yeah, I got broken. Then I got broken three more times. Then I got broken two more times in the third set. Then it was over 26 minutes later. Is that what you saw, too?

Quote:
Q. What did Jimmy say? US Open final experience, you played him tough, got on a roll. Did you talk about that before the match, if Roger gets on a roll, try to do X, Y or Z, slow it down?

ANDY RODDICK: Yeah, there's a lot of strategy talk. It's not so much like, If you're down 6‑4, 6‑0, 2‑0. We didn't really talk about that. Oops.

Quote:
Q. Your performance here is better than on court.

ANDY RODDICK: My performance here is better than on court?

Q. Right.

ANDY RODDICK: No shit (laughter). If there were rankings for press conferences, I wouldn't have to worry about dropping out of the top five, I hope.

*laughs*

At least Roddick has a good sense of humour about it, he also had a humourous press conference after Goran beat him on his way to the Wimbledon final.

If Federer wins the French (and of course Austrailian) I give him a 75% chance to complete the one-year slam. Maybe Im low-balling it.

I may have asked this before, but how many more grand slams do you guys think Roddick would have if Federer wasn't around?

I'd say at least one more, maybe a couple more.

I'd probably give him 3 more. A couple Wimbledons and a US Open.

Federer is ridiculous... wow. Most dominant sports athlete ever? Quite possibly. He'll be on his way to like 30 slams by the end of his career, the current record is Sampras with 14. Will probably get close to doubling the most weeks at #1 record, considering he almost has it now. Most Grand Slam finals, biggest winning streaks, it isn't even a question that he's the best ever. I think Gretzky's 2800+ points while the next closest is 1800+ is pretty amazing, but Roger is up there.

Im putting money on Gonzalez tomorrow. His performance against Haas was just as mesmerising as Federer's. He's on a roll and hopefully he can keep the momentum going.

Gonzalez had 42 winners to 3 unforced errors.

Of course I don't expect him to play THAT well against Federer, and in his first GS final. But maybe well enough to take the first set of Fed, before Roger can really figure out his game and how to beat him.

Ho..ly... shit. And this is why Serena once held all 4 majors at once.

But to be honest, this is one of the worst matches I've seen in a while. Not really because of the score, but because it's just smash serve, grunt, smash return, ball goes into net, bounce bounce, repeat... over and over. No rallying or flow at all, just errors and bashing it at each other.

Yeah not the best of matches play wise. Forget about the score. Last three finals matches are some of the most one sided Open finals in recent memory. Hopefully tomorrow's Mens final is closer.

Well, I guess this proves no one can touch a healthy Serena in women's tennis... she's just such a friggin beast. It's hard to believe Sharapova is the world's #1 player after watching that, Serena made her look like a child.

Dominance. If she continues like that - we'll have a Federer like situation where the next best is miles off.
