 Beckham joins LA GAlaxy
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/footbal ... 248835.stm
Best move possible for him I suppose, even though the MLS is a bit of a joke. . But £500,000 per week, on a 5year contract?? Surely the MLS will be goin out business with this sort of crazy money. Im not certain but isnt the average yearly MLS player wage only 60k or so? Crazy stuff.

Yeah just heard this morning. MLS is a snoozefest.
Apparently, the LA Galaxy owners sold another one of their teams, DC United for 30 million? Then of course, the Beckham talk surfaced.

You cant really blame the guy, play 3 more seasons on the bench at Real earning in those 3 years less than what he would in one season at LA. Anyway, it seems he's gone somewhere atleast where he is wanted . .
I wouldn't be surprised now if a couple more big name players join the MLS, possibly Ronaldo or Figo, or someone of the like.

If they can handle the British paparazzi, L.A. should be a piece of cake.
Posh was spotted last week in Malibu looking for a house, according to the local news.
(Then the Malibu fire broke out, LOL coincidence?)

Beckham is the ultimate example of all thats wrong with western standards of celebrity. The thought that he's better known then Roy Keane, Michael Ballack, Luis Figo and countless other players of greater quality past and present makes me ill.

He's getting 50mill a year for playing MLS?
That must be the biggest sports contract ever! and to a guy who's not even a top 10 soccer player!

Whoever offered him that deal deserves to be shot.

The highest paid MLS player right now is Landon Donovan at $900,000. I thought it was pretty insane already to see Barry Zito getting $100 some million to just move from one side of the bay to another. CA has some rich people.

Thats personal opinion, in which i think he is actually better than the players you named, and done a lot more for football in general than them guys.

He was a decent wing player nothing more.
All he's done for the game is predicate the culture of the up their ass footballer that now roams the english game. Its because of him that people like Nigel Reo-Coker and others think their Gods gift after maybe 3-4 months of good performances, that and the media's pathetic need for the instance sporting celebrity. The idea that Beckham is worth $250 million even at his height is insulting to football. Witness the listless displays of England and Real Madrid when he was allowed into a central position. Ferguson was smart enough to keep him in his best position but Beckham has an ego and it had to be fed.
Its not his fault he took the money and fair play to the man for selling himself that well but thats all he does.

Did you watch him last season? He was arguably Real's best player. Which to be honest isnt really saying much, because Real were pretty woeful. But dont forget he turned down a new contract from Real AND offers from both Milan clubs, he still has enough to offer I think, maybe not in the England but I reckon he could have done great in Italy. I wouldn't really class Beckham as an "up their ass footballer" thats more comparable to the likes of Henry, Nicholas Anelka and the like. Beckham generally comes across as a really nice guy, I suppose thats why hes the biggest sports star in the world.

Ya he played decently for Real life season I'd agree there but you could see without a midfield bulldog guarding him (since Zidane and Figo were in decline) he was marginalised more then before. Yes he still has plenty to offer I'd agree I mean there were one or two nice offers from England on the table indeed its not the fact that he's good footballer that i'd dispute its just that his profile is vastly disproportionate to his influence on the pitch. I just hate the fact that he stands for the destruction of the soul of football in the interests of the corporate image, that because of him and a lot of players like him the game just becomes about the money, the individual over the team so to speak. I mean in 4 years when he retires the media will move on and they won't publise the next big footballer as the one with the true greatness but more the one who can sell a product better. And that is Beckhams legacy.

I don't understand what the MLS was thinking with this one, I mean, it's a great move for the sport and the league, but what in the hell did they make it so expensive for?
It's like they picked the biggest number they could afford and offered it and then were probably surprised when he accepted. He would probably have came for $150 million, so why add the extra $100?

Even Beckham came out and said it in his interview, he wants to basically sell the sport so to speak to the americans and get more interest involved. Pele/Best tried it but it didnt work as they came at the death of their careers but atleast Beckham acknowledged he could have come when he was 34 and ended his career, but he didnt/isn't. What we're going to see now I think is more good american players staying in the states to play rather then coming to . . fulham. revolutions wrote: cool i'll get to watch him when he comes to play dallas. << this is the reason they got him in

For what it's worth... I think most of America who don't know ANY soccer players, KNOW who Beckham is.
Whether you like it or not, it's true.
