Deserving for Zidane. At least something! You know, thinking back, I am sad how it turned out fo Zidane and France because of his temper, but hell, I loved seeing Materazzi, this pig, going down. Hopefully it hurt too, but I don't think it did.

Materazzi deserved a red card too And Zidane should be rewarded for his fight against racism. Too bad he didn't stomped on his balls. Where's Rooney when we need him???

Well, this is all fine and dandy, but how do you know what pissed Zidane?
Really poor showing of French fans there. They did, after all, surpassed even the most optimistic predictions.

It's rumoured that Materazzi called Zidane a "terrorist", which pissed him off majorly due to his Algerian heritage. It's funny however, that Zidane "confirmed" the insult by turning into some kind of suicide assassin right afterwards.

Zidane is a great player, amazing player, one of the tops period. That said, the guy has always been a headcase who can't control his anger ... their best PK shooter ... Henry is out ... wtf are you thinking!

The newest rumor says that Materazzi called Zidane's sister a prostitute. Twice.

maybe it will be one of those great old stories about the world cup final.
Like Ronaldo's pscyho attack before the final.
We will never know.
PLUS ITALIANS PARTYED LIKE MAD YESTERDAY! Over 100,000 in little Italy alone. That show of pride by Italians puts most Canadians to shame.
Thanks to Taller and Better for those pics.

well the most shocked person was buffon. He almost exploded. I wouldn't want to mess around with buffon, he looks like a maffia don. Lol, the headbutt was the talk of the town everywhere. Its going to be a classic. People thought Italy played well, and seriously think some of them are part of the maffia.
I think CANNAVARO Fabio, ZAMBROTTA Gianluca,GATTUSO Gennaro look like they are part of the maffia.
Italy has some players who exploit the game, however those three metioned above plus Buffon and Pirlo are all respectable good soccer players.
Totti is a nutjob, ever since that injury during the 2002 wc aginst South korea. FUNNY MATCH!!!

Portugal won the Most Entertaining Team honor? Voters must be going for the satire effect. Germany should've easily won the award if it means for what it is supposed to mean.

I suppose "entertaining" means "funniest" because nothing's topping C. Ronaldo's whining and dives as well as their match against Holland...
Germany played the most attractive soccer, though.

Best Goalie: The man with the cool name Gianluigi Buffon
best defender: The Italian captain CANNAVARO Fabio
best midfielder: Zinedine Zidane
Best Forward: Miroslav Klose
Italy won and Zambortta,Cannavaro, Pirlo, Buffon and Fabio Grosso were the main reasons why.
I was impressed by pirlo, his corner kicks were perfect.

nah, those guys are the real fans here in Canada and have likely stoped soccer from being a non-name sport here. They deserve thier chance to throw a party.

This is according to Wikipedia:
Reportedly, the deaf forensic lip-reader Jessica Rees was employed to analyze the video sequences with the help of an Italian translator. According to these reports, Materazzi spoke in Italian - a language understood by Zidane due to his time spent with Juventus F.C. - and first told him: "Hold on, wait, that one's not for a nigger like you." As the players walked forward, Materazzi allegedly said: "We all know you are the son of a terrorist whore." Then, just before the headbutt, he was seen saying: "So just fuck off." According to Brazilian TV Rede Globo, a lip-reader claimed that Materazzi twice called Zidane's sister a prostitute. Earlier claims about Materazzi having called his opponent a "dirty terrorist" have been denied by Materazzi, who reportedly said: "It is absolutely not true, I did not call him a terrorist. I'm ignorant. I don't even know what the word means."

Hmmm, Italy may just wind up as the most hated World Cup winner in a loong loong time. I mean, I know Germany is biased, so it doesn't say much that all here hate it. But I read in different international forums and I see the perception here and seriously, the overwhelming majority of people seems to be hating Italy's win.
That above (provided it's true) gives a pretty good reason why. Too bad Materazzi didn't break anything. Of course it was very stupid by Zidane. If I was him, I'd have waited the final 10 minutes and the penalties and then I'd have beaten the guy into pulp right on the field. He'd have nothing to lose then.

Once we got into the semi-finals, I think the only good finish to the Cup would have been a German win. The team was so motivated, it was so exciting to watch them, and they really were well behaved. It's too bad that the only good game Italy played was against Germany. A Germany vs. France final would have been very nice to see.
Zidane's reputation will recover from this. I think it already has. Especially if he was provoked, which it seems to me he was. Yes, he blew up in the 1998 Cup too, but the Saudi guy apparently made a racial slur as well. It doesn't excuse it, but it does palce it within an appropriate context.
Anyways, when people look back to this Cup, what they will remember is a rejuvenated German team that did their country proud.

agree, because of that France lost. Italy is such a wierd team. A team with such good players but there are like 4-5 bad apples on that team that make them disliked so much.

Although I dont agree with what Zidane did - I'd hold him in much higher esteem than that weasel Mattarazzi. The Italian team should never have even made it to the final - let alone beat Australia. The whole match fixing scandal that hangs over their heads still stinks. As has often happened this WC - the wrong team won.

I was impressed by Australia. I think the Aussies are one ofthe few teams that could pose a threat to the established hierarchy in the coming years and decades. There's so little mobility up there...
I'd go so far as to say that Australia has a better chance to make it to the top than the African countries do.
