excel wrote: and again it says june 30th. Well there you go, more marketing of the 30th not 28th. Fans and people that are very much interested in the film will know it comes out on the 28th, everyone else wouldnt even bother to find out , care, or realize that it comes out on the 28th.

magnus the posters saying june 30th wont matter.
if the tv spots due it will.
but as long the tv spots still say 28th, or the 27th,itll get a 25 milion+ wednesday. especially with 10 pm n midnightscombining for atleast an additional 5 million. hell batmans"empty midnights"were 4 million n supes will probably be more crowded.

the opening day is like this.
superman has 10 pm AND midnight screenings.
seeing as batmans midnight screeing were considered bad n got 3.3 million, i'd say the lowest total superman will get from 10 pm/midnights combined would 5 million.
ad in that without midnights, war of the worlds raked in 21 million opening day. superman appeals to more and i think will have considerably more buzz plus its got a big big fanbase that that film lacked.
so the lowest opening day i see is 5 million 10pm/midnights + 21 million through the rest of the day.
so basically i dont see an opening day under 26 million, at this point anyways. the marketing is really picking up.
personally i see 27 but after that breakdown i think it could do more. x3 got 6 million from midnights alone, so ill give superman 4 million at 10 pms n then 2.5 fromt midnights(basically, i think supes would get 5 million from midnights w/o 10 pms) so it has 6.5 million heading into th day, where ill earn an additional 21.8 million. its the firts big event movie since x3 (or cars i guess) and first real summer cgi/action fest summer blockbuster that appeals to both kids and teens. Plus all school will be out by then, and superman looks to be big with kids, so theyll be out and ready to go see it. so right now i give 28.3 million on wednesday, though if theres supersaturation tv spots(which i think there will be-like matrix reloaded w.b. seems to be pulling out all the late stops(Too bad thye didnbt od it for batman begins ) to build hype)) itll def. go up but if theres not itll go down.
trust me when i say this, tv spots build 90% of hype these days, and if the tv spots get the date, it will not matter that posters say june 30th.
plus weve still get a time magazine COVER coming according to singer.

At least Magnus is being a little realistic.
excel, pretend for a second that the world doesn't track Superman Returns information 24/7 like you do. Ever since marketing started and the trailers were released, the film has been advertised for June 30. Then, it moves. The same thing happened to lots of other films and all of them disappointed opening day and rebounded somewhat over the weekend (or, in Shrek 2's case, a massive rebound). To continue to think that the opening day will still be massive after this switch and the general public not knowing about it is just plain bias towards the film.

I think the film is gonna have a lot of trouble attracting teenagers on its first weekend; they're just not interested in Superman. What's popular now is Spidey and X-Men, not some guy in a boring blue suit straight out of the 30's.
I do think however that it's gonna be big with little boys and also decently big with nostalgic adults.
With that said, I think that even if it came out on Friday, $80M would be the absolute maximum weekend gross for it.

its not bias, its how i see the marketing going. if the tv spots say the 28th, and theres the amount of tv spots we seem to be getting, this will not have that bigof an effect. it might keep it from getting say 30 million, but itll get atleast 20, and probably 25. and if the marketing goes how i see it n how it looks to be going, i think itll get 28.
when you see a tv spot for a movie over and over again, and they have a voice over saying the release date like the supes tv spot have, you kinda notice after a while what their saying even if your not paying attention.

Wow.
You really can twist anything into a positive, even if it doesn't make sense. So, basically, the guy who speaks on the Superman TV spots has such a powerful voice that he can force someone to remember the June 28th release date.
Um, okay.

zing, you know what i mean.
if the tv spots are there the posters saying the 30th wont matter.
you dont get what i said? picture this: your watching tv but not paying attention cause its a commercial break. you look over n see the "S" n the annoucer says "opens June 28th". you shrug it off as thats in 2 weeks.
when your see a spot and hear those words 100 times youll get it.
im not turning anythign into positive, im saying IF the tv spots are there then these wont matter.

Excel is awsome, I love how he comes up with conclusions. So if Batman did bad in it's midnight showings yet it got 3m, SR should be able to get over 5m in midnight showings and then add 21m for the rest of the day, just cause. So 26m is minimum. BKB is about to get replaced by excel as my favorite poster.

no..5 million with midnights AND ther 10 pm sneaks.
the 10pm sneaks ALONE got 7 million FOR MATRIX RELOADED.So 4 from them for an event movie like this really sint that much.

excel, do you not realize the biggest problem with your argument?
THE HYPE FOR SUPERMAN RETURNS IS NOT EVEN HALF OF WHAT THE MATRIX RELOADED HAD.
Also, I don't care about the posters. I'm not arguing about that. I'm arguing that the commercials and trailers have advertised June 30th for months and WB has just switched the date at the last minute. This has happened to MANY films and all suffered disappointing opening days, for the most part. Superman Returns is not some mega-force that won't suffer from a lower-than-expected opening day "just because" the commercials will change to June 28th, starting next week. There's a big affect.
