Excel, you should be telling the ones predicting under $200 million, "You're not seeing the big picture here."

People describing the Novel as "Been There, Done That" and rehashing dialogue from Donner's movie's is what I've been saying all along now and that this movie is going to have an uphill battle to climb at the box office in order for people to forget about Reeve and it's not going to happen.. Hell it sounds like Singer tried desperately to copy Donner's 78 movie's right down to Marlon Brando being CGI instead of offering something new which he knew he couldn't..

SUPERMAN RETURNS UPDATE

Superman Returns, transferred to film just hours earlier, was given its first screening for the press Thursday night in Los Angeles.

Executive producer Chris Lee introduced the film, noting that it had just been put to bed and that some minor tweaks -- i.e. color corrections -- still might be made.

He also asked that the press not leak spoilers -- including a major one not in the film's novelization.

After the screening, members of the press were given a preview of the 3D IMAX treatment the film is getting.

IMAX president of filmed entertainment Greg Foster said Superman Return's "DNA" was ideal for the 3D treatment. The first trailer, which was done in 3D to show director Bryan Singer, and examples of the film's coming-at-you action were shown.

"We showed this to Chris Lee, Brandon (Routh) and Kate (Bosworth) and they were jumping up and down and giving each other high fives," Foster said.

In other notes:

* Screenwriters Dan Harris and Michael Dougherty have small roles in the film.

* The film seemed to generate a positive response, with applause at the end.

So they are not hiding SR from the press. That's a good sign. I'm still a bit uncomfortable with the trailer. They are definitely hiding Routh -- whether that means he'll be really good, or really mediocre, I don't know. I'm still in the Under $200M club, but $230 or so is entirely possible. But I don't see over $250. Even if it has the potential for killer WOM, PotC is going to change the subject real fast.

superman's fanbase will generate more than 200 million easily.

repeat viewings and viewings by people who dont normally fit in the fanbase will boost it.

Interesting pre review.... I like hearing that its emotional and about something. Personally for me. X-men was ok but lacked heart and emotion. I left feeling entertained but not satisfied. I am however definitly looking forward to seeing this flic in IMAx 3d. As far as a box office gross? Im waiting for more reviews. No I dont predict by a critic meter.. but I do like to read reactions about what type of film it was before making a prediction. This pre- review seems to be in the right direction.

Jeff Wells may be arrogant as all hell - but his tastes typically run about 90% equal with mine. If he's that positive about it, I'm guessing it's a good movie.

Of course, that's not a measurement of how well the film will do (see MI:III).

(sorry for the edits, my spelling skills are in the gutter today)

Well positive reviews from critics are expected, I dont know why people are surprised by it, I mean Bryan Singer movies usually have high praise from majority of critics. Now appealing to major audience is a different issue because Kong also had huge acclaim from critics but failed to really attract an audience. From the sound of the review, it looks like it could be quite an enjoyable movie. As I said much earlier I expect a RT percent of over 70% but not quite in the range of BB or X-2

another mini review.

First Superman Returns review!

Whoa!

Life. As I sit down and rewatch the classic 1978 Superman -- will be doing the entire series this month -- a close friend is attending a Los Angeles press junket watching the new film!

A couple of minutes ago, the lucky dog sent me a frenzied mail with his first impressions of the film. Most of it is hard to decode, replete with excited typos, but here are some bits I could piece together.

I'm more excited than ever now, and just had to share this with you guys:

Amazing special effects. Completely mindblowing.
Brandon makes a convincing Superman.
Lois Lane seems to have more dialogue, though.
Kevin Spacey is b-r-i-l-l-i-a-n-t.

And then the bit that breaks my heart because of Hyderabad: The best part was the IMAX 3-D portion. unbelievable.

Oh. My. God. I can't wait.

Its in HD, so it looks really nice.

Best TV spot yet by far. Action, drama, and some one-liners all thrown in together very well.

Yay! It said June 28th.

Thats odd since I remember him digging the shit out of BB. Guess he doesnt want them to use Joker and such over again. That would basically take away all the popular villians from the comics.

That's always been the point of almost every single KJer, and it's true. Batman has always outperformed Superman in the BO. But WB is actually picking the marketing up for SR, and it's good to know that WB won't make the same big mistake that they did with BB. As of right now, $20-$40 million above BB seems reasonable.

yes it will. :shades:

and also eventine, only batman 1 outperformed superman in the BO adjusted... you cant compare a film from 1989 and a film from 1978 without using adjusted numbers.
