Too bad for Jersey, I really thought they could come back to take the series. So the Eastern Final is Buffalo/Carolina. Could be a decent series, both are high-scoring teams. I'll pick a favorite later.
Edmonton's up 2-1 after two. If they can hang on and win this game, they've got a great chance to go home and take game six to win the series, just like against Detroit.
The only good series of this whole round was Edmonton/San Jose. The others were quite boring - two five gamers and one sweep.

What a crazy game. Four minutes into the third, it's 4-3 Edmonton. Four goals in four minutes. That's nuts.

OILERS WIN!
What a solid game by the Oilers. The powerplay was fantastic, going 3-7, the penalty killers were fantastic, killing off 6 of 7 Sharks' powerplays with a shorthanded goal, and Roloson was fantastic, making saves when he had to. The Oilers are getting both scoring and shot blocking from everyone. The entire team is playing so well.
The Sharks are done now. This loss will really take the wind out of their sails. Thornton, Marleau, and Cheechoo have all been relatively quiet, and Toskala is rattled now. He let in 6 goals on 18 shots tonight. That's bad. Their powerplay is fizzling, and their penalty killers are useless. And they're taking a lot of stupid penalties. They're not playing well at all.
The Oilers will close up shop Wednesday night at home.

Woohoo. While I think a Game 7 would've been more exciting, the Oilers pretty much having it in the bag now definitley just makes me happy. They've really stepped it up now, they're just executing and playing much more smartly than San Jose. Assuming they win, I think they've got a great chance against Anaheim too. The finals aren't looking so distant anymore.

PEACE, Mike.
Yeah, does this happen to other teams as well? I can understand a team getting raw deal every now and then, but Ottawa almost always disappoints in the playoffs. The only exceptions would probably be the 1998, 2002, and 2003 series.
But I guess I shouldn't complain too much. They do have one of the smallest pay-rolls in the entire league, so the fact they usually finish near the top of the standings every year is pretty damn good if you ask me.

Oilers up 1-0 after two. I would like them to have a more comfortable lead, but at least they're winning. Just twenty minutes to go...

St. Louis Blues was an underacheiver for a long time as well, always getting into the playoff but doing nothing.

Solid win for the Oil. It wasn't an overly thrilling game, but they got the job done. They've got the split at least in Anaheim, and the Ducks have trouble winning in Edmonton. This is a huge step in winning the series.
I'm still mad that none of the hockey analysts have jumped on the Oilers bandwagon. They've picked against them each round, and each round they win. It'll happen again this round. Just watch.

Well, the Oilers won again, and took both of the games in Anaheim. They've got a great chance to finish the Ducks off in 4, now, since Anaheim has trouble winning in Edmonton. It looks like the Oilers are going back to the finals...
Roloson's playing outstanding. He just keeps getting better and better. Peca too. This is the best Oilers team in 15 years.

While I don't think Edmonton will necessarily take it in 4, I think they've definately got the series now. With Edmonton winning both first 2 games away, I find it hard seeing them lose the series.
At this point, I see an Edmonton vs. Buffalo Stanley Cup Finals.
PEACE, Mike.

Both the Oilers and the Sabres are peaking at the right time, making for an interesting finale (if the trend continues).
If Buffalo takes down Edmonton, they'll officially be in my nightmares all summer.

I'm happy the Oilers are killing, but I'm worried about a short 4-5 game win leading to a long rest. Look at the teams who have done that so far in these playoffs: Ottawa, New Jersey, Colorado, San Jose, Anaheim.
...Not exactly a good omen.

If the Buffalo/Carolina series is short too, it won't matter. Both teams will be about as rested.
I'm just pumped to see the Oilers in the final again. I hope I haven't spoke too soon...

Wow, Edmonton blew a 4-0 lead and almost lost the game. Crazzzy third period.

Holy shit. What a game. It's a good thing the Oilers held on to win, because I don't think they would have been able to recover.
I would say that they've got the series now, but I don't now. I hope.

Yeah, a loss would have been a crushing disappointment. They held through though.
I think it's safe to say they are going to the finals. Infact, I think they are definately going to the finals. Like I've said before, only TWICE in the history of the NHL has a team come back from a 3-0 deficit in a series, and those both occured in the 60's and 70's I believe. There is always the chance that Anaheim somehow comes back, but it is sooo small, that it's like a 0.00000000000000000000000000000(gazillion more 0's)1% chance. Heh.
I can't believe how short all of the series have been in the 2nd and 3rd rounds of the playoffs this year. Technically, they should get longer as the good teams get filtered down, but it didn't really.
PEACE, Mike.

Wow, I did not watch the game last night, but I was monitoring it on NHL.com. I went to sleep when I saw that it was 4-0, and shocked to see the final score end up being 5-4. I really hope they win the next game, though. I've been rooting for them since the Playoffs started. Go Oilers!

I wasn't there for the game last night either sadly, I was at soccer practice. I remember somebody telling us it was 3-0 in the 3rd period, when I came home I was shocked.

Whatever little momentum Anaheim had going into last night's game, it surely must be completely gone by now.

YAY, Buffalo has pulled out a 2-1 lead in the series! I'm so happy. I want Carolina to go DOWN.
My fear of it being a Carolina vs. Anaheim final might be completely wrong, and will hopefully be an Edmonton vs. Buffalo final! Woohoo!
PEACE, Mike.
