It was a crime what Canada's coaching staff did to Rick Nash in this tournament. They guy was a beast in the offensive zone, stick-handling and driving at the net in the first couple of games (something that was sorely lacking in their last few games), getting their only goal against Switzerland (the one that was called back) and then they bench him. Sure he took a few bad penalties, but so did Bertuzzi and Pronger and I don't buy the claims that he was playing too individually out on the ice.

Canada's best line through the tournament was Lecavalier/Smyth/St. Louis and everyone else pretty much choked. I personally believe that they made a big mistake in not putting young snipers like Stall, Spezza and Crosby on the team. Russia didn't hesitate to put Ovechkin on their squad and look how that turned out.

Not a good time right now for Wayne, poor guy.

The men's Canadian hockey team sucks. I'm very disappointed in them. Terrible games. They deserved not to win a medal with the way they played. Honestly. Benny is very right in saying that Crosby (specifically) should have been put on the team. I thought it was an absolute crime that Crosby didn't make the team. He IS the Pittsburgh Penguins right now. Without him, the team would move to a level beyond suck (for those who aren't up on it, the Pittsburgh Penguins are one of the worst teams in the NHL right now, if not the worst - only helped out by Crosby mostly). I'm rooting for Finland now, because it has my fave hockey player Saku Koivu on the team.

But still, I'm really happy today. Canada got 4 medals, 2 gold and 2 silver! That's by far the best day we've had so far. Gold and silver in 1,500m women's speed skating, silver medal in women's short track, and a shocker gold medal from newcomer Crawford in 1.1 km. cross country sprint. Got us up with 5 golds, and tied with US in third place with 18 medals. We've beat our record.

PEACE, Mike.

Huh? What are you talking about? Klassen was on the women's team pursuit for Canada. They won silver.

Great day for Canada, even though the men's hockey team sucked ass. Can't say they didn't deserve what happened.

And the Czechs beat Slovakia! Freaking lucky bastards. They've been even worse than Canada coming in, which is a hard feat to duplicate.

So, looking over Canada, we've got 18 medals so far.

We have one more guaranteed medal, and that's with men's curling. Gushue made it to the finals, so he is guaranteed a silver medal at very minimum, with gold a possibility. So we've got a silver/gold here.

Then there is the women's curling team, who lost in the semi-finals, and now go on to the bronze medal game. So if they win there, this gives Canada another bronze medal.

There is Klassen who has her final speed skating event with the 5,000 metres. She could possibly win her 5th medal at these olympics. So one more medal possibility here. We could actually see another double medal win here from Klassen and Groves, if both of them perform as wonderfully as they did today with the 1,500 metres.

Canadian Warren Shouldice made it to the finals for men's ariels in freestyle skiing. He placed third in the preliminary round, so if he does as well in the finals, he will garner Canada another medal. There's also fellow teammate Kyle Nissen who placed 7th in the preliminary round and also made the finals.

Leuders and Brown, who won silver together in two-man bobsleigh, will join two other Canadians for men's Four-man Bobsleigh. Since Canada has always been a large force in the sliding events (bobsleigh and skeleton) there is a possible medal here.

Anything else?

So, if everything goes really well for Canada, and we push off from today's momentum of winning 4 medals, then we could indeed approach 25 medals. Either way, we are guaranteed a total of 19 medals, and that's awesome. A new record.

PEACE, Mike.

Davis 2nd, Hedrick 3rd behind Italian in 1,500

HAHAHA! soo glad Davis beat Hedrick. Little whiney bitch.

Congrats Enrico Fabris of Italy. :) well done.
================================
http://sports.yahoo.com/olympics/torino ... &type=lgns

Davis came out on top in the smoldering rivalry between him and the brash-talking Hedrick by virtue of finishing higher in this race.
Each has a gold medal -- Davis in the 1,000 and Hedrick in the 5,000.
Hedrick was sixth in the 1,000 and Davis finished seventh in the 5,000.
The two aren't fond of each other and that was evident on the awards podium.
Hedrick smiled and half-heartedly waved his bouquet. Davis raised both arms, smiled and waved to the crowd.
Fabris jumped onto the top spot -- in the middle of the Americans -- and waved in all directions. After the bouquets were presented, Davis and Hedrick joined Fabris on the top spot. Davis tousled the Italian's hair and they talked to each other. Hedrick stared straight ahead. There was no traditional handshake between the medalists.

I'd whine too if I was Hedrick.

Plus anyone who would bet against Davis is crazy seeing that Hedrick is a newbie and slightly inferior to Davis.

Yep! 19 guaranteed medals versus 17 medals last winter olympics, which was their previous record.

Austria's record I think is 21 medals from the 1992 winter games. They are at 19 medals total so far now, so they are also having a great year. They just need to garner 3 more medals to also have a new record.

Anybody know of any other teams that are having a great year in terms of being close to or having set a new country record?

PEACE, Mike.

Norway seems to be having a relatively poor year, at least in terms of gold medals.

In 1994, they won 10 gold and 26 overall.
In 1998, they won 10 gold and 25 overall.
In 2002, they won 13 gold (the most gold medals that year!) and 25 overall.

This year so far: 2 gold medals and 18 overall.

This year they have only TWO gold medals thus far! With the Olympics dwindling down (4 days left), it's unlikely they will get anywhere near how well they have placed the past few years in terms of gold medals. They have 18 total medals this year so far, which could be raised up to the mid-20's in the last few days and still be a fine total. But that seems like a huge drop in gold medals.

PEACE, Mike.

That article appears to be old. It's written as if the US still only has 13 medals total. It says they need to win 10 more (23) to win the whole thing. But Germany is already at 22 total, with 9 gold. That's ahead of the US in both cases. Does the US have a whole lot of hopefulls in the last 4 days that will boost them to the front? Perhaps I'm just missing something here.

PEACE, Mike.

She bowed out of the final against germany, so she wasn't to exhausted to win medals for herself. That's one reason why Anni Friesinger, who participated in three of the four pursuit races was behind her in the single events.

The norwegians had a string of bad luck this year Marit Björgen, who dominated the cross country skiing events was ill before the olympics and hasn't recovered from it. That's five gold medals alone. Then they took the wrong skis in the 15km men's event leaving them without a chance. And the norwegian biathletes are getting pummeled by us germans so far. These are the two disciplines that cost them this year
