Yeah, the Americans dominate snowboarding. They have 3 gold medals and 3 silver medals all just in snowboarding! Without this event, they'd be down to 5 total metals.
PEACE, Mike.

11- awesome! We have 2 hockey medals guaranteed beyond the capacity of fate to deprive us of it! Yay! Curling hopefully will give us 2 more, and I believe some speedskating's coming up too. So at the least, we can reasonably expect to beat the 1998 15 tally and match the 2002 17 tally. 20 doesn't seem that far from that Happiness!
I have so much respect for the Canadian Women's Hockey Team. 42-1 over 4 games- wow! And frankly, I'm glad the Americans got beaten.
A few years ago, the American team was up against Canada, and the mother of one of the Canadian players had died, so she, the player, had said that she would dedicate a win to her dead mother. Well, the US won, and one of the Americans after the game said "Well, I guess she won't be dedicated this to her mother now!" Urgh, sickening. They also had the Canadian flag on the floor in their locker-room, so that they could walk on it everytime they went in and out.

i'm glad the americans lost! go sweden!!- canada for gold though!
they are amazing hockey players!!
damn you canadians though in the skeleton... knocked our bloke off the podium! lol
The ice dancing was soooooo boring last night!! zzzzzzzzzz- and the damn judges gave Italy shit loads of points they didn't deserve just coz the crowd was going crazy (being a home crowd its hardly suprising)
boooo for subjective voting!

Canada isn't having a good day today. Lost in Men's hockey, men's curling and women's curling. Nothing that has prevented them from moving on yet (all round robin) but it still isn't good. The women's curling team are particularly in a bad position.
Germany appears to have done stellar today. Jumped from 11 to 15 medals, and have 6 gold and 6 silver. Very well done.
PEACE, Mike.

Yep, the weekend is always ours. Expect more medals tomorrow in Bobsled, skating and cross country skiing. (if all goes perfect three gold)

I think our men's curling team are doing good. but our women's aren't doing particularly well (they wonn gold last olympics so we have high hopes)
too much pressure possibly!

Davis became the first black to win an individual gold medal in Winter Olympic history Saturday, capturing the men's 1,000-meter speedskating race. Joey Cheek made it a 1-2 American finish, adding a silver to his victory in the 500.
w00t! Gold & Sliver for the US!
total of 7 Golds (most of any nation by 1) for the US so far.
WOW! Norway has 16 medals but only 2 are gold.

I wished Cheek would have won. Davis was even too arrogant to participate in the team event. I don't like those kind of sportsmanship. Same with Cindy Klaassen who bowed out of the team final, giving up any chance of a gold medal for her team, so she has a better chance to win the 1000meter event

The South Koreans waited four years and ganged up on Apolo Anton Ohno, dropping the American star to an Olympic bronze medal Saturday in 1,000-meter short track speedskating. Ahn Hyun-Soo won his second gold medal of these games and teammate Lee Ho-Suk took the silver.
So far only a bronze for Ohno at these games.

Urgh, that loss to the Swiss was horrible
Anyways, so the Canadian committee has said that we are now still on track for 25 medals overall and a top 3 finish, so this still looks to be our best game ever. Hell, we need just 7 more medals to make this our best game ever.

Another bronze at short track for China. Need another gold to match Salt Lake's performance. Still has chance at the short track relay events. Unlike the Summer Olympics in Greece, China is still pretty limited in the types of winter events they can compete.

One loss and the media has a heyday.
I'm just glad the Canadians didn't lose their first two games, because if that
happened, the moronic media would be extending the whole gambling issue and blame
Gretzky's presence for their loss. Glad that hasn't happened.
The whole "upset" term really doesn't work in the men's hockey event,
because unlike the women's hockey, a lot of teams are "up there". Slovakia
beat the US today, Finland beat the Czechs, and the Italians (!!) actually tied the Germans.
PEACE, Mike.

Yeah it would have been a more momentous occassion for Davis but his arrogance made pretty much everyone (well, Hedrick the most) want to stab him Julius Caesar-style.
But then again, being a selfish person, Davis probably won't mind all this negative press. Good for him, I guess.

Actually, when you look at the latest ranking, the italians are far better than our team. Germany is only a c-class team, opposed to Italy, they aren't even allowed to compete in the next world championship, they're in the B-Worldchampionship. So you should better put it this way "the Germans (!!) actually tied the Italians"
As to why: Most of our players don't even play in the german league, since there are too many c-class canadians and americans in the league who get the starting spot over young german talents. So the two ties against Italy and Switzerland are not that bad

Germany has definately been placed above the Italians in terms of expectations in men's hockey.
As odds before the men's hockey started, Kazakhstan and Italy are said to be the two teams racing
to avoid last place. At Covers for example, the two teams were listed at +20000 to win, with
all other teams much better odds. It's similar elsewhere too. Germany was never highly ranked, but they were
certainly expected to beat Italy.
And don't get me wrong, I wasn't trying to downplay Germany or anything (as you can see with my
previous comments, I completely support them - I want them to beat Norway, and they are doing
wonderfully so far), I only used the examples as ways to show that men's hockey is a lot more tight
than the women's and the media makes a hoopla out of nothing (I suppose I should have expected that).
In other news: Germany and Canada lead on Sunday in terms of medals, with 3 and 2 medals each
respectively. Germany stakes the lead easily with 18 medals total (ahead of Norway's 16), and Canada
re-ties itself with Russia and US.
The women's super-G was postponed due to poor weather conditions.
PEACE, Mike.

I'm pretty happy with Canada overall thus far. To be honest, though, I would like to see more than 2 golds. I mean, 13 medals is great, but some countries like France, South Korea, and Estonia have more gold than Canada does.

The Canadian female hockey players are my favourite athletes at these games! Such an incredible team! The men should take notes from them

I agree. I don't feel like the men are playing like a team. We have a lot of great players when looking at them individually, but they haven't impressed me this year, even in the games they won, really.
The womens hockey team is friggin' awesome. They (along with Cindy Klassen, who has become the first Canadian woman to win 3 medals in one winter olympics) are the one's the team should look up to this season, I think. Wonderful women.
PEACE, Mike.
