The "War of The Worlds" Prediction Thread..
I figured that this is coming out in the Summer of 2005(which I find hard to believe that Spielberg will be finished on time to release it then) and since I didn't see a thread on this, I thought I'd be the 1st to start one.. So far, I'm probably in the majority or so that enjoyed "Minority Report" and the collaboration of both Spielberg and Cruise.. I also enjoyed the Dark, Futuristic look it had as well as the storyline of arresting someone for a crime before they commit it.. With that having been said and not having seen a trailer for this yet and sort of premature guessing, I think "War of the Worlds" will play out the same way "Minority Report" did..
I Predict for Opening Weekend: 70-80 Million
Overall Domestic Total: 220-250 Million.. Any takers??

ehhhhmmm... you think it will have such good legs??? (thats a 5.45x multiplier)!!
comparison:
LotR:RotK: 5.191
Shrek 2: 4.08
Minority Report: 3.702
You can see that the summer-movie Shrek 2 had a much lower multiplier, moreover, RotK had an advantage cause of the oscar-ceremony and didn't reach 5.45! Minority Report - best to compare with WotW - had a pretty decent multiplier with 3.7...
Just want to say that IF you're right, WotW will have one of the most amazing box office runs ever! 8)

Opening of $71M. Closing of $212M. It won't have that great of legs, but it's summer weekdays should push it over $200M. Of course, as there is no trailer or even a real synopsis of this movie I really can't make a real prediction. This could pull a Hulk, but I think it'll be more like MI:2.

It will definately do better than Day After Tommorrow. Since that movie almost passed 200 million, I'm thinking War of the Worlds can gross anywhere from 210-250 million. Not as good as ID4 but with Spielberg and Cruise's name attached to it and it being based on a the popular radio broadcast, it will do in the 200 millions'. The competition from this summer will cut into its potential from Batman Begins, Star Wars and Madagascar.
80/220 million

Well from the look of things here, it seems many people predicting in the upper 300+ Million are very optimistic in this making some big buck$$$$... I hope your right but somehow, this sort of has a MINORITY REPORT feel going for it from the pics... I loaned that to my friend a couple of days ago and he just watched it the other night for the 1st time and enjoyed it alot.. 8)

This seems like an interesting movie that's a bit different from the others. The only chance it has for success is if it's not dark. Think about the big 4: King Kong, Batman Begins, Star Wars Ep 3, Harry Potter 4. They are all going to be very dark (not sure about King Kong, though).
Opening: $70.0
Total: $313.0
I'm a bit optimistic about this one, though.
