If Boston loses and New York wins, they're two games behind (92-67 vs. 94-65). To win the East, they'd have to win all three games.

So, no revolutions, New York is pretty much a lock. It's between Boston and Cleveland right now.

And if Boston doesn't come back tonight, Cleveland will just need one more win to guarantee at least a 163th game. Take 2 out of 3, then no play-in game will be needed.

so what does it mean.

Boston wins 2 out of 3 this weekend againist Yankees at Fenway and then there is a playoff game on Monday at Yankee Stadium Monday ( they won a coin flip ). Seems like a decent chance > unless the Yankees win 2 out of 3.

************************

but does anyone know how the wildcard is decided if there are tied teams > do they play or is it settled based on the team stats / games / etc.

If the Red Sox and Indians are tied for the wildcard then there will be a 1 game playoff in Fenway on Monday. If the Red Sox and Yanekes tie and the Indians are out, then whoever won the season series takes the division. If all 3 are tied, then the Red Sox and Yankees play a one game playoff for the division in Yankee Stadium (I think), and then the loser plays the Indians (in Fenway if it's Boston, in Jacob's Field if its New York). Chicago is out of the picture. They are in.

Which means they aren't fighting for their lives. So the Indians have the best chance to take wildcard (on paper). Hopefully Yankees take 2 from Boston and we take 2 from Chicago.

I think you are wrong, why would all other scenerios get a playoff game then this one - this already happened in 1978.

anyway, I found this.

If the Red Sox, Yankees and Indians finish tied, New York will play Boston on Monday, with the loser heading to Cleveland for a one-game playoff to determine the wild card.

Yes! White Sox clinch the division!

With the best record in the AL, that surely means they will make it to the world series, only to lose to the team with the best record in baseball, the cardinals.

Not so fast my friend. If Cleveland sweeps the Chi Sox they are tied for best record in the AL.

Only thing that might be that different is how long ozzie will keep his pitchers our there. If you have followed the White Sox all this season (which I have) you would have noticed that he sits his players A LOT. (it really pissed me off, too, seeing some scrub in there over podsednik and Iguchi)

Well, expected development so far with Cleveland not scoring any runs, because Millwood is pitching, and Cleveland's offense always says "sorry buddy" and takes the night off when he is on the mound.

This on again off again offense bullshit is going to screw this team. Hopefully Shapiro sees, as astute fans tried to tell him, that you can't plug the Casey Blake's of the world into a position like Right Field. They need a guy out there that can put up Hafner numbers. It's bad enough that they settle for less at first base, but first base AND right field? They need at least one more big bat to prevent these kinds of slumps.

what a surprise. Ben Broussard, Aaron Boone, and Casey Blake do nothing. They need to step up, right about now.

But that was Ball 4.
