Look at what happen on 24. To me some things they did backfired on them. I wonder if they are pushing Marcia Cross for an Emmy and Golden Globe next season, and felt that they needed to give her character something that the audience (and voters) would be sympathetic to, in an effort to get an award for her.
I still think Teri Hatcher is going to win the Emmy this year. I have a feeling Marcia Cross will get it for the second season.

Yes, I would expect the same, and I think that's fair. Teri Hatcher is deserving, too, and I think it's safe to say that Desperate Housewives wouldn't have gotten as much attention without her, as she was easily the most recognizable. Marcia will get hers, she just has to be a little patient.

This kinda sucks. I haven't been a regular viewer of any TV shows for years, and now I remember what I always hated. When the season is over, you're kinda lost on what to do on those nights that your shows are on.

I can't remember where you jumped in to watch the show, but I'm almost certain you didn't see the pilot when it aired. Maybe ABC already aired it again and you've seen it, but if not, ABC is re-airing the very first episode tonight. Not the same as new episodes, but you can see how it all started.

TV Guide Online has where people can ask questions on certain shows and stuff and they might get answered. Well, the recent one has the question of whether or not Veronica Mars will be able to survive Lost next season, and if UPN is purposely trying to kill it, as well as questions/complaints/comments on 24, Desperate Housewives, etc... Plus, people pissed that Joan of Arcadia was canceled without CBS even trying to give it another shot on another night/time.

Thanks, Mr. X, I actually did watch the first episode tonight, and I'm sure there was lots of stuff mentioned that made perfect sense to me after seeing the finale, that many here didn't notice or forgot was foreshadowed about Mary Alice's story when they first saw it when it originally aired.

P.S - Still shocked that America warmed to such a blatant dark comedy like Desperate Housewives considering the countrys lack of receptiveness to the genre in history.i guess the quirky characters and mysterious storyline helped.

Steven Culp himself has publicly said Rex is dead.
If he's not, Marc Cherry is pulling a rather enormous fast one on us.

I hear you but the thing that stood out to me is that the death was handled very differently from other deaths in DH. In other cases, and in basically every major plot turning point not just deaths, they showed it actually happening or at the very least the person leading up to doing it and others finding it after. A DH way to handle Rex's death would have been showing him taking an overdose, having a nurse rush in and try to revive him, having his doctor told he died and such like that. But no they just had him writing a note and Bree getting a phone call, they left out anything that could be said to be actual evidence that he died.
So call me suspicious but yeah I think Cherry is pulling a fast one on us. Just a hunch though because I know it's sort of a longshot. But my b.s. detector was going off...

That scene was fantastic - when Bree returned to cleaning her cutlery before sitting down, uncreasing her table sheets, and mentally falling to peices. Fantastic.
The ending wasn't the biggest cliffhanger in recent memory ["Mom"? Alias Season 1] but it was right up there.

Footballers Wives has been around for about 3 years before Desperate Housewives.
If anything Marc Cherry should be answering to ITV.

Possible major spoiler in season premiere:
Here is a brief portion of the synopsis for the season premiere over at TV.com:
"The new season takes off from where last season left off. Bree identifies Rex's body at the morgue as he has officially died."
So, do we take that with a grain of salt, or should we assume he's definitely gone? I guess anything is possible, but it sounds like they're trying to make his death a definite, unlike what many speculated.
Anything is possible in primetime soap operas, I guess.

I watched something on TV late last night (after midnight) that recapped the entire first season of this. It may have been the same recap that they did toward the end of the season, because they had a guy was doing the narration instead of Brenda Strong, but they recapped right through the season finale, which they hadn't reached when the recap originally aired.
Mr.X., Rex is dead. Steven Culp confirmed it. The producers and writers want Marcia to get her Emmy and Golden Globe, and adding a bit of tragedy to her life will probably accomplish that.

I still need convincing that there's a possiblity that he's not dead.
I mean, bring him back? Eh?

I guess he's really dead, it just seemed so odd to me that they wouldn't give Culp his death scene, actors live for that kind of thing. If you know what I mean.

Exactly. I thought it was basically "Expect anything" in soap operas, anyway.
And, just because Culp says he is dead on a talk show doesn't mean anything. If he said "Well, I can't really discuss that" or even "Nope, I'm still alive", I think he'd be in trouble, don't you? Of course he's going to SAY that. Doesn't make it true.

Well, I can't remember what show he was going to start being on (I think it's The West Wing, if I remember correctly), and if he's on that, he's not going to have time for another show. He probably wishes he did have a death scene, and probably wishes even more than he wasn't killed off, but that's show biz.

"Shirley Knight ("Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood") will also guest-star in the episode as Rex Van De Camp's (the departed Steven Culp) mother, who comes to town for her son's funeral and promptly sets about driving his widow, Bree (Marcia Cross), nuts."
Sounds awfully similar to Gabrielle's storyline with Mama Solis, doesn't it?... and Susan's storyline with her mom... and even Lynette's storyline with Tom's father.
