I think a combination would be all right. Direction for a TV series and writing for a TV series. Besides, when you separate it, it's pretty much a repeat of what you nominated for best comedic/dramatic series.
But another question: Not up for combining guest actor/actress?

That's a tough one. I already combined it into Actor and Actress for both genres, but if people want to combine actor and actress in the guest star role, so be it. One more slot for a category, then. So, there's a set 14, with writing and directing, which now leaves four vacant spots, if that is the direction everyone would like to go in?

Also, combining Guest Star is a good idea.

These are the ones I want to stay definitely:
Drama Comedy Animated Reality/Game Actor Drama Actor Comedy Actress Drama Actress Comedy S. Actor Com. S. Actor Dra. S. Actr. Com. S. Actr. Dra. Opening Sequence Male Guest Star Female Guest Star
That is a set 15 that I absolutely want to stay, and I really don't see any objections. That leaves 5 more spots (I'm keeping it at 20, because if I start adding everyone's ideas, we're going to have way too many). We could combine comedy and drama for writing and directing (which would equal two more categories), or we could just let those drop completely.
And for voting, I want six nominees, but you guys can probably do with just three per category and we'll probably have enough for six. I do encourage to fill in six nominees per, so we don't have many ties.
- I think it is stupid not to include talk show - hello it is tv
Leno, Letterman, Jon Stewart, etc.
- Also I am very disappointed not to have the most attractive.
There is nothing cheap about saying who is the best looking people on tv.
- Also unless you have extra slots available that have covered all of the regular categories - I don't think guest star is important enough - what are you talking about 1 show.

Most Attractive isn't really...rewarding quality, like the other categories.
It would be very out-of-place and quite MTV-ish.
But, I digress. Whatever you guys want.

OK if people don't like it - their choice - no real big deal to me.
but I just think
that it is an interesting question
who people think are the most attractive man / woman on tv

Best Talk Show will likely be included, along with another category for a variety series. I am not certain yet.

We don't necessarily have to have 20 categories.
I suggest combining Guest Actor and Actress and having maybe 8 nominees in that category to give it a little more variety and selection. I think that's a really good idea and we should start finalizing if we should keep them separate or combine them.
Aside from that, there are only 3 additive categories that stand out to me...
Favorite/Best Reality/Game show contestant: This would give posters the oppertunity to voice their opinions on their favorite reality show contestants. Players from Surviviors, The Apprentice, The Amazing Race (I guess you would nominate a team for that), American Idol and even Ken Jennings could go head to head.
I think it would be a fun, new, and creative category; nothing too cheasy or MTV-ish about it.
Best Cliffhanger/Finale: I could that some people may say this is a bit too much or not really necessary. But I think this also makes for a fun category that really isn't too MTV-ish or an award just for the hell of it. We just wrapped up a season of TV shows with aesome finales, CSI, Desperate Housewives, LOST.... Posters could also nominate in this category the final episode of a retiring show. If the series finale was noteworthy, they could nominate it, basically saying how it ended on a high note or how well they wrapped up the show.
Best Talk Show: This would range from daytime and night-time talk shows and would combine all such categories as Best Host, Best Guest Stars, Best Music, Best Monologue Stand-Up all into one category.
I'm not too sure if Variety Show will be necessary.
But I do really think that the three boldfaced categories should be added to the list and I'd appreciate the support; they're not even my own ideas; they are combined brainstorming from alot of posters.
So when do we have the official category list and tstart nominating?

Drama
Comedy
Animated
Reality/Game
Actor Drama
Actor Comedy
Actress Drama
Actress Comedy
S. Actor Com.
S. Actor Dra.
S. Actr. Com.
S. Actr. Dra.
Opening Sequence
Guest Star (8 per category)
Talk Show
Reality/Game Show Contestant
Season/Series Finale
So, there's 17. What about writing and directing? Should we include those, or nix them completely? If we get rid of them, let's propose one more category, so the number of categories is even.
And now that I think about it, I agree on Variety show. I think if it's funny enough, then it should go with the comedies. There's not a ton of variety shows on TV, so the competition isn't that great.

I was looking over your other list, Raffiki, and I'm mulling over Best New Show. I don't really know if we should use that. I mean, it's a good category, but it feels too People's Choice Awards. Plus, it takes away from a comedy and drama categories. It's like "Well, some shows get two chances!", you know? Not blaming you, cause it was proposed already by a few, including me.
I'm so tempted to make the last category "Excellence in Sexcellence; Hottest Male or Female TV Star".

Well, I was going over that list of mine too and I disregarded that category as well. That's why I focused on the three in my post above.
I think if you guys want, we could include a writing category and also bring back the directing category but give them the Guest Star treatment; 1 category each but 8 nominees.
And if someone could come up with another creative category, we'd have the even 20!

The only issue I have with directing is are we just going with an overall series, and not a specific episode? Same for writing, too.

Show some balls / brains and include them as the last 2 categories. One for the man and one for the woman.
Like for example what is so wrong / bad / harmful to the awards
If say E Lilly from Lost or someone else wins..
And it should be the most attractive not hottest or sexiest if you want it ..............

That's the problem. Not to offend anyoen here, but my assumption is, if it were overall, people wouldn't sit down and think which show had the best writing and probably vote for their favorite or the one they think is the best show. So, maybe we should do episodes and combine it, so it won't be too tedious.

Ack! After reading Raffiki's Lost post (in the "Lost" thread, o'course) and reading the last two posts here, I'm getting confused as to what to do.
Okay, as for Goldie's suggestion. I really don't see anyone really wanting to go with "Hottest/Sexiest" star. I don't think it really belongs at all. We see those lists all the time in the Water Cooler, is it really a necessity to do it?
Raffiki, do you mean that everyone should try to find individual episodes, their favorite episodes, and nominate 8 per category for writing and directing? I myself think that will be a lot worse for some people. That will take too much time.
Ah, what to do, what to do.
Any ideas on the last award, since if we go with writing and directing, we'll need just one more for an even 20? The only suggestion I got is the Hottest Male/Female TV Star, and I figured there must be something else we can go with, unless everyone wants that. Once again, your suggestions are needed. Even if I don't go with all of the suggestions (sorry, Goldie), I don't want to make all the decisions, either.

No, it's not really my show, it's everyone's show. Everyone who comes here and participates make the decisions too. I may have the final say, but I do want everyone's input. Do you have any more suggestions, besides the 17 mentioned a few posts ago, as well as the writing and directing categories? I really would like 20, and you had lots of great ideas already, so see if you have a few to suggest and we'll go from there.

That's OK - I know it is everyone's show.
I am also out of ideas as you already took half of mine.
Here is one last one - Not sure as my favorite past tv series one didn't go over well.
How about Most missed TV show. Like Friends, Seinfeld, Etc.

So what are you saying now?
Are you saying people sitting down and thinking of 12 single episodes (6 for each comedy and drama) is better than picking 8? What I'm saying is, if we go with overall writing and directing, I don't think alot fo posters will actually sit down and think about direction and writing and just vote for what show they want. Either way is fine, I REALLY don't mind and don't care which one people want. I'm up for anything.
But if you want my opinion, I think we should combine and make a category for Best Writing and nominate up to 8 single episodes of any or a mix of all shows and same with direction.
I'm sure some will want the overall version. Let's vote and see whcih one wins out and start this already.

Okay, I don't know if we need a vote. If we go general, it will likely be all the same shows nominated in the Comedy/Drama categories. So, we either go with nominating individual episodes for writing and directing, as you suggested, Raffiki, or we get rid of the categories altogether.
And Goldie, I like that idea. What about something like a "Excellence in a Classic TV Show" award, or something like that, where we nominate shows from the past for some sort of "Hall of Fame"-like award? That's more or less your idea, Goldie, just with a different name. Most Missed is probably more or less shows from the past few years, but shows from 30 or 40 years ago could be nominated in this category. Anyone like that idea?
--------------
SO, if we come to a decision on those two problems, we can start nominating soon.

I think this may be dragging on too long and we should start it before people lose interest.
Here is my proposal and if no one disagrees, let's just go with it.
Drama
Comedy
Animated
Reality/Game
Actor Drama
Actor Comedy
Actress Drama
Actress Comedy
S. Actor Com.
S. Actor Dra.
S. Actr. Com.
S. Actr. Dra.
Writing (8 per category)
Directing (8 per category)
Opening Sequence
Guest Star (8 per category)
Talk Show
Reality/Game Show Contestant
Season/Series Finale
First Annual "Name of Award Show Here"'s Hall of Fame Award. Inducting a classic show with the majority of the vote. Qualification: A show that ended it's run by the year 1975.
For the Hall of Fame Award. My input or idea is that we make one this year for 1 show up until 1975. The following year we can the award for Hall of Fame TV Actor and Actress until 1975. The year after, we can do a show from '75-'00 and then TV actor and actress for those years. What do you guys think?
If no one objects, let's get on with it. How many do you want us to nominate per category; I mean send it for the nomination process? And when will be the deadline? I'll help in any tabulation, if necessary.

Beautiful, Raffiki.
Quick question, though: For writing and directing, are we just nominating shows, or are we nominating actual episodes?
I've got a couple more episodes of Lost to go, but other than that, I'm ready. Let's do it.

You nominate single episodes.
And for the acting, I know some people disagree cuz it will be too confusing, but I insist we do Best Actor/Actress in a Comedic/Dramatic Role rather than Best Actor/Actress in a Drama/Comedy.

If no one objects, let's get on with it. How many do you want us to nominate per category; I mean send it for the nomination process? And when will be the deadline? I'll help in any tabulation, if necessary.
