Quote: Universal Pictures' "Cinderella Man" could open in the $25 million range, vying for the No. 1 spot with reigning champ "Star Wars: Episode III -- Revenge of the Sith," and "Madagascar" and "The Longest Yard," all of which should gross in the $25 million-$30 million range.

June 3-5
Final Predictions
1. Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith - $25.9 million –53% (TOTAL: $308.7 million)
2. Madagascar - $25.0 million –47% (TOTAL: $97.3 million)
3. Cinderella Man - $23.2 million NEW (TOTAL: $23.2 million)
4. The Longest Yard - $21.4 million –55% (TOTAL: $91.1 million)
5. The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants - $13.4 million NEW (TOTAL: $17.1 million)
6. Lords of Dogtown - $6.5 million NEW (TOTAL: $6.5 million)
7. Monster-in-Law - $5.6 million –45% (TOTAL: $70.7 million)
8. Crash - $3.0 million –35% (TOTAL: $40.7 million)
9. Kicking and Screaming - $2.3 million –55% (TOTAL: $47.7 million)
10. The Interpreter - $1.1 million –45% (TOTAL: $70.7 million)
It'll be close between Sith and Madagascar, but I think Sith can take it for the third straight week. Cinderella Man will have a big theatre average, but I can't see it cracking $25 million.

Here's my final predictions for the new movies ...
CINDERLLA MAN - $18.6 million
SISTERHOOD OF THE TRAVELING PANTS - $14 million
THE LORDS OF DOGTOWN - $10.9 million
I have a feeling that many of you will be surprised by LORD OF DOGTOWN'S gross, it's been selling out a lot around here and in New York City, I smell a decent sized hit.

1. Madagascar $26.0m -44.9%
A 45% drop after last weekend looks on the cards. It won't have the word-of-mouth of Shrek or Pixar flicks but the fact is kids CG movies never suffer from frontloading and not even the week-after-memorial-day effect should change that.
2. Revenge Of The Sith $24.7m -55.3%
Sith should make a little over $6.6m on friday and with a solid increase on saturday and a 30% drop on sunday a 55% drop shouldn't be too hard to manage.
3. Cinderella Man $24.6m NEW
The reviews have been great and this film has more going for it with the Crowe-Zellweger-Howard combination than the pedigree attached to The Interpreter which opened to $22.8m back in April. A boxing film may be harder to sell than a political thriller, but as the biggest opener in the first week of June and with Million Dollar Baby's success possibly aiding it (although possibly hurting it if two of these films close together is too many) it should have a decent crack at $25m.
4. The Longest Yard $22.0m -53.8%
Bruce Almighty showed comedies can hold well in the post-holiday frame, but with The Longest Yard exhibiting a relatively weak multiplier last weekend after a strong friday debut, its drop should be around 54%.
5. Sisterhood Of The Travelling Pants $10.9m NEW
I'd be very surprised if this film cracks more than maybe $11.5m - as many have said, it's title and subject matter are likely to keep away most of the males out there and that doesn't bode well for the film's chances at bigger numbers. Wednesday was slow and Thursday dipped slightly more than expected so in spite of its stunning reviews I think the hype just isn't there.
6. Lords Of Dogtown $6.0m NEW
I was thinking around $8m until a couple of days ago when I caught the second half of the trailer. Low theatre count, piss-poor marketing equals flop.
7. Monster-In-Law $5.7m -44.1%
This film has surprised me with its strong holds and I don't see this weekend being much different. It's weekdays have been solid and a 44% drop seems achievable.
8. Crash $3.4m -27.7%
This has been an amazing performer week after week and while Cinderella Man may take away some of its audience, the film seems to be having extraordinary word-of-mouth as reflected by its IMDB score and I can't see it dropping more than 30% even after last week's inflated holiday figures.
9. Kicking & Screaming $2.4m -52.9%
Like Anchorman, Kicking & Screaming hasn't been able to avoid fairly heavy drops each week but as it suffered beneath the weight of The Longest Yard's opening last weekend I don't think it should drop too heavily (60% seems a bit too much against last week's numbers). That said, The Longest Yard is still going to be appealing to a large chunk of that same audience this weekend and after K&S's drop last week the soccer film will be playing in less cinemas and session times. A drop of around 52% seems about right.
10. The Interpreter $0.9m -57.1%
The fact it held well last weekend is exactly why it will fall hard this frame - with a regular sunday drop it would be coming off a $1.7m figure and when you look at the film's weekday performance over the last few days it would be surprising if it could snare much more than $1m this weekend.

Don't you mean Madagascar hurting it? I am quite sure The Longest Yard played hardly into its audience. This has a pure family audience, and very few teens are watching it.

I had no idea it was a family film - never saw the marketing for it, just heard it was Will Ferrell and soccer and after last week's gross with Longest Yard out and K&S dropping that made sense given the context I was applying. Lucky for me Longest Yard and Madagascar are both grossing similarly, so the point still stands if you trade movies . Thanks for the heads up.
