 "The Honeymooners" Prediction Thread
The Honeymooners
Trailer:
http://www.apple.com/trailers/paramount ... eymooners/
Release date: June 10
Studio: Paramount
Director: John Schultz
Starring: Cedric the Entertainer, Mike Epps, Gabrielle Union, Regina Hall, John Leguizamo, Eric Stoltz
Budget: $25-30 million
Plot summary: The Kramdens (Cedric, Union) and the Nortons (Epps, Hall) are working class neighbors who are united by bus driver Ralph and sewage worker Ed's friendship, which is built mostly around their never-ending quests to get rich, which in this movie includes dog races, metal detecting, the lottery, etc. Can the duo make enough money so that they can give their wives the sort of homes they think they deserve?
My prediction:
$15million/$45 million total
There has not been a mainstream black (romantic) comedy in months. Cedric is not much of a box office draw, but he has a small audience. Also, Mike Epps and Regina Hall have small loyal fanbases because of their work in comedies. Gabrielle Union attracts the younger crowd and women, and her previous work in romantic comedies should attract people. The commercials have been running on UPN and BET, and there have been ads on several black Web sites. Some commercials depict it as a comedy with romantic overtones, and others depict it only as a comedy.

Hmmm....I love REGINA and GABRIELLE, their great actresses. Hilarious.
But CEDRIC does my box in. So i'm thinking:
$12,000,000.
$30,000,000.
See very very bad reviews, so a moderate success.

I think it looks pretty bad but I'm sure it will be a hit. I doubt it will make as much as BARBERSHOP though, think BEAUTY SHOP numbers.
Opening - $12 million
Closing - $35 million

I think that they still haven't posted them but it should get less than 2000 screens.

Oh man, not again. The difference is that even though they may be a different race, the Kramdens in both series were very middle class people. I think Cedric the Entertainer fits Ralph Kramden to a T guys, it's no worse then if they had hired an African American guy to play Superman. As for the movie, it looks very mediocre, and I think The Longest Yard was something for many urban audiences. However, the cast has it's audience, and I've seen a lot of ads. 12/32
