1. Madagascar - $31.7 (-40%)
2. The Longest Yard - $25.2 (-48%)
3. Star Wars Episode III - $21.3 (-61%)
4. Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants - $16.2 (NEW)
5. Cinderella Man - $15.5 (NEW)
6. Lords of Dogtown - $7.5 (NEW)

Interesting that Madagascar will be #1 in its 2nd weekend, not its first. It's pretty much a lock now for it to be first.

Probably, but I just don't think people want another boxing drama so soon after Million Dollar Baby... I just have mixed feelings on this one... :-k

With Cinderella Man being the only adult drama this summer (like Seabiscuit and Road to Perdition of their years), I don't see how it could make any less than $16 million this weekend.

You still deny the inevitable $350+ million gross. It'll drop about 55% next weekend. =;

1. Madagascar 32 million
2. The Longest Yard 27 million
3. Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith 24 million
4. Cinderella Man: 23 million
5. Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants: 18/24 million
6. Lords of Dogtown: 12 million

By the way, am I the only one who finds it just plain amazing that Crash will handily outgross xXx: State of the Union, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, House of Wax, AND Kingdom of Heaven? That means the following actually occured: Crash is THE highest grossing movie of the first week of summer (or second, if you count April 29th  ).

Cinderella Man - 25m
Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants - 10m/14m
Lords of Dogtown - No idea, I can see it going in either direction.

I really think Cinderella Man is being underpredicted. A few weeks ago I was thinking 20m, but the marketing has been so strong.

Considering how hackneyed and manipulative Crash was, I'm amazed.

You have a point, I don't think it was realistic in many ways. Yet, you didn't find it at the least to be well made?

Not particularly. But even if a film is well made, that doesn't make it a great or even good film. Just means it was well made. I'm sure there are people who will say Herbie Fully Loaded is well made.

Cinderella Man will do very well. It is being incredibly well advertised, even if I personally think it looks like typical Howard sappy, boring crapola. Will get at least Road to Perdition numbers, probably higher, as the dramatic/love storyline is much more accessible than the dark storyline of Perdition. Cinderella Man is also again the "serious summer film" and has this weekend to itself in that both other openers are small ones and will make no dent in Cinderella Man's audience.

PEACE, Mike ;)

You know, I'll go with 26.5m for Cinderella Man as of now. I wouldn't surprise me if it opened with over 30m, and finished at about 150m.

For $30 million, Cinderella Man would need a PTA of $10,700. It'll need some awesome WOM to get that. I think it'll open lower, but have fantastic legs (of course), and still reach over $100 million. It could finish better than Seabiscuit.

Boxing is a hard sell no matter the people involved in it, tops Cinderella Man can do is about 20m imo, but more then likely it'll have very good wom.

Regarding the $10,700 PTA, Road to Perdition achieved a PTA near that when it opened in July 2002.

Lords of Dogtown - $17M
Cinderella Man - $16M
Sisterhood of Pants - $14M

Star Wars will be #1 again. Can't believe these high predictions for Cindrella Man. Million Dollar Baby just came out a few months ago, and it barely crossed $100M even with the oscar. Why would Cinderella Man do better? When two of the same movies open with a few months of each other, the second tends to suffer, atleast with the opening.
