At the Tigard 11, The Longest Yard gets two screens, including the giant screen. Star Wars keeps three screens, and Madagascar gets two. Wow, talk about getting rid of the leftovers, all they have otherwise is Monster-in-Law, Crash, and Kicking and Screaming with one screen each, and Unleashed/Kingdom of Heaven sharing a screen.

Anyways, at the Lloyd Center 18, The Longest Yard gets the biggest screen and two others, Star Wars keeps four screens, albeit all smaller ones, and Madagascar gets the second smaller "giant screen" according to the listing for three screens total. Hmm, interesting strategy of giving Star Wars the most rooms but the new releases the biggest, looks to be the norm in most theaters around me too. Otherwise, they only Monster-in-Law, Crash, Unleashed and Kicking and Screaming keep there entire screens, while otherwise the leftovers get split into a number of theater combinations with about two showtimes each. Oh yeah, definitely cleaning out the spring releases.

It will easily break $50 million this weekend, trust me. But how high it goes is still a giant mystery. I'm starting to think it will be high......the buzz at the theater I work at has been building for months now. I'm even starting to hear adults ask when it's coming out.

My theater is getting MADAGASCAR on 3 screens, keeping STAR WARS on 3 screens, and getting THE LONGEST YARD on 2. They aren't getting the CINDERELLA MAN sneak. I could care less since the movie looks like shit ;).

But whoa! My theater is getting rid of UNLEASHED already, yet keeping MINDHUNTERS.

At my theater.

Madagascar - 5 screens (plus one 8:10 show in one of the Star Wars theaters), 29 showtimes.
Longest Yard - 5 screens, 25 showtimes.
Layer Cake - 1 screen, 4 showtimes.
and Cinderella Man Sneak attached to the Interpreter.

Star Wars - 5 screens (plus one interlock all day, and one interlock only in the day because Madagascar takes one of it's screens), 27 showtimes.

Looks great for the openers. Only 15 titles here, summer is definetly here.

Seriously, the openers combined with ROTS will eat up all competition because movies like Kingdom of Heaven, Kicking and Screaming will shed screens like crazy and movies like Mindhunters, xXx2, Unleashed and House of Wax will all be dropped. I expect numerous movies to lose 800+ theatres this weekend. Crash should be the only one to survive this well.

4 longest yard ...seems like to much

4 madagascar...seems too few for us anyways considering my theatre is always in the top 3 in all of ATL with every family / kid movie....last year alone we were #1 with shrek and polar express (minus the imax theatre in town)...so kinda odd only 4 and 4 longest could have lost one of those for 5 of these *shrug*

still 5 star wars

and other crap splitting screens no one cares about...

cinderella man sneak on sunday @ 7

I'm pretty sure Monster-In-Law will also do well this weekend, but otherwise I completely agree.

Yes, I mentioned Monster in Law in another thread as well. It has an audience of its own. Crash will be the one hurt the least, I believe. Unleashed lost 543 theatres, I expect House of Wax to at least lose 800 and same for xXx2.

Only if Longest Yards pulls it off, then hell yeah.

BTW, I have early shift today, so stayed tuned.

Cedar Rapids

Madagascar - 10:20 AM Showtime
Approx 10 people (6 kids) 200 seater

Trailers -

Bad News Bears - No reaction. Looks funny.
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory- No reaction. Interesting trailer considering it's NOTHING like the movie. Shame on you WB. Or is it congrats?

The Film -

Well, it's not very good. Outside of the penguins and lemurs, the film is a huge bust. The leads don't really work at all, the pop culture references (Planet of the Apes, Chariots of Fire, Twilight Zone, American Beauty...) aren't very funny, and the animation isn't remotely innovative.

D+ is a very generous grade all things considered.

The lemurs and penguins deserve their own spin-off though. Long live King Julian.

The similarities are striking. I will say again though how funny the lemurs and penguins were. Ben and Chris and Jada and David don't work at all. AT ALL. A big name cast does not equal a quality animated film. Shark Tale made that clear and Madagascar now reinforced it.

A couple of reports from HSX:

"Theatre report for STAR3, MADGS, and LYARD...
-- jhamaker (aka "jhamaker11"), May 27, 17:26

As you might expect, STAR3 is still the big show (at least after the first set of the day). LYARD and MADGS both had decent first shows but nothing to get excited about. Although I believe LYARD did more on one screen than MADGS did on 2 screens (but I don't have the numbers in front of me).

One thing that is worth noting: MADGS did not start off as well as movies like SHRK2, NCRBL, or FNEMO. With the holiday weekend that may not mean anything; but I will post some better analysis later on today or tonight."

"Your Hawaii Theater Report
-- BigDaddy (aka "RobL"), May 27, 17:52

Ok, so here in Hawaii things are slightly slower then on the mainland. School is out for the most part and the beaches are PACKED. it's a holiday weekend so I went to check out The Longest Yard at the Dole Theater.

They haden't sold a single ticket for the frist showing, so I skipped it. Could it be that because it's 84 and sunny and everyone is at the beach, or that this might be a sign that it might not do well? I think it's the weather, but then again, it's VERY strange for a film to not have sold ONE SINGLE TICKET, even here in Hawaii.
