I don't buy that it drops that much on Saturday either. Frontloade sure, but to drop on a Saturday, I don't get it.

HP3 opened up to 40 million on a Friday and so it makes sense if it dropped on it's second day. The same would go for Sith if it had opened up on a Friday. However, it opened up on a Thursday so dropping like this on it's 3rd day makes no sense whatsoever.

Impossible, but I how it was a typo. not 31.2 but 41.2
It really doesn't make sense if these numbers are correct.

No, he killed my family. And now I'm going to "Kill George."
Nah, I'm just looking forward to it being a couple of weeks old and old news. It happens to me with most all big blockbusters when they first open, unless they open small and have great legs, then, depending on the movie, it might not bother me. I could even be very happy for it. And I suppose I'm happy for Star Wars too, even if I'm not a fan. I just get sick of hearing about them, and all I've heard about for a while now is Star Wars and now it's at the top of the Box Office, so I'm just in a hurry for it to die down and to seeing something else take its place at #1.

I think showbizdata has Friday as 33.5 whereas BOM has it as 35.5, so we'll see.

I'm in the camp that the number doesn't make sense, because a Thursday opener had never dropped Friday-to-Saturday before, and we had some mega-blockbusters that opened on Thursday. Star Wars is more frontloaded, but it displayed that with Thursday midnight gross. Doesn't make sense to have a good hold on Friday (once you substract the midnight from Thursday) and then suddenly drop off on Saturday.

That's what I'm thinking as well. SW3 had THursday to take care of all of the frontloading, wehreas HP3 took in all of the initial fans on Day 1. In that case, it made sense that it would drop on the second day, as SW3 did. Hmmm :???:

Then what. Bury all the theatrical copies of Madagascar and TLY...
It will be alright. I'm fine with a 85-90 weekend gross.
As long as it will do great the weeks ahead.

WOW. I cannot believe how in denial everyone is!
I thought it would do about $40m on Saturday, but it's not so shocking to see it drop!!
I mean Friday did do better business than Thursday!
think about it, there was $16.5m from midnight showings only, excluding all the 2,3,4,5am showings which probably gathered another 2 million or so AT LEAST.
So.... 50 - (16.5 + 2) = $31.5 million Thursday business without midnight showings.
Friday did $35.5 million, which is a $4 million increase. I think it's understandable that it's not gonna increase another $4m cuz probably all the people who would normally see a second viewing or such already saw again on Thursday and Friday.
I will admti I ama but surprised, but it does ahve some kind of explanation. I think the Sunday number now will be around $25 million or so. If Sunday ends up grossing only around $20-22 million, then we have ourselves a more frontloaded movie than everyone thought.
Basically the weekend is gonna come just around how much Matrix Reloaded grossed, except with a lrager opening day, quite larger. But I doubt it will have as bad legs as Reloaded. If it indeed did drop on Saturday, I think $400 million will be a bit out of reach, unless it grosses about $80 million over the 4 day Memorial Weekend.
I wonder what people might do if either Madagascar or The Longest Yard (or both) gross more than Satr Wars next weekend. Hmmm... that will be an interesting fiasco I won't be here for (Senior trip to Armenia!!)

Wow, Take a look at that. About a 60% increase from Friday and about a 20% drop from last Saturday.
Crash will go on to drop under 25% this weekend!!!!

When was the last time you saw a major blockbuster such as Sith, that opened up on a Thursday, drop on a Saturday? The answer is never, it has never happened and that makes these numbers seem unbelievable.

Looks like 100m weekend is out of the question, it will end up at about 90-95.

You have no hope.
And I was referring to Reloaded having bad WOM starting, yet it still didn't drop on Saturday, so what do you really think the chances of that happening with Sith, which has great WOM?

what?? i always maintained it won't hit 150 million. I personally thought the movie would linger at 35 mil but not shocked it dropped .. actually more than anything, i'm disappointed. I love ROTS, don't want it to do bad so really hoped to see 149.9 mil.
I may have gotten it right.
Behold!! Now bABA is the popular one!!
