I very much disliked Monster-in-Law, but this has the potential to gross $25M next weekend based on the reactions I saw.

The crowd loved it. I see around $20-22M, but I wouldn't be shocked if it came out with $25M.

Right now, I'm looking at a 25M opening, but I'm holding off until the actuals come out to start my Monster-in-Law thread. It's possible, though unlikely, that it could be #1. I'll know more as the week progresses, as this week isn't as easy to figure out between the top two films.

No, they're never added to a movie's opening week.

To add to what Libs said, the sneaks are added to the movies that they attached to, or in this case, The Upside of Anger and/or King's Ransom.

No, but it's just 800 theaters with one showing a piece, I believe. Won't add up to millions and millions. I think the WOM from these sneaks is going to generate millions and millions, though. .

If Kicking and Screaming continues to get positive reviews like those from Ebert and Roeper, it'll own the top spot.

I'm not completely swayed by today's audience reaction to Monster-In-Law.

But, loyal, will it really matter if Kicking and Screaming gets great reviews?

My little sister already wants to see it, and Ebert's opinion isn't going to change it either way.

It matters for Will's Anchorman and Old School fans. I'm not interested in seeing The Pacifer or Daddy Day Care. But to see Will do Will, that's more than enough.

Great reviews always help, even if it matters less for some than the others. It may not affect the people who always determined to see the films, but it helps to attract those who are on the fence.

Zingy, just do me a favor. If I DO say Monster-in-Law will be #1, I'm not doing it on a whim, and I hope that my track record is gaining enough credibility to consider. I don't want to see you lose 3 times in a row.

I'm a huge Will Ferrel fan, but I'm not feeling Kicking and Screaming. The trailer was funny, but I wouldn't rush out to see it.

Though, I might have to see it. Little sisters. #-o

Mav, seriously, I wouldn't be surprised if Monster-in-Law does take the #1 spot.

Based on the reactions I saw today, I'll be surprised if this opens to less than $18 million.

I'm not convinced yet, as there are still things that I need to consider, but I'm actually leaning toward Monster-in-Law right now. :-$

I had zero interest in seeing it, I thought the trailer was shite. That is, until I saw it reviewed.

Finding out Will's character plays tetherball with Duvall and has a weird addiction to caffeine was enough.

Mav, if you are willing to, then let's make a bet. I am betting that Kicking and Screaming will be #1, not Monster in Law. Let me know, if you're in ;)

That PG rating scares me off any confidence in making the bet, especially since the summer hasn't had anything for the kids yet. We'll see. Maybe you can save your bet for the following week, when I make the bold prediction (if Lucas releases it wide enough) that Sith will break Thursday's record and the 3 and 4 day records.

Who said I will disagree?

I think that Thursday and 4-day records are possible...

Just not 3-day

Well, the 3 day is the one that will be the hardest, but the other two are history after Sith is released. If it's a high enough release, the 3 day is gone as well. Mark that down!

With generous calculations (and I mean very generous), it'll need about $44 million on Thursday to break the 3-day record. Very unlikely.

You'll have to explain that a bit better.

With all of the hype, STAR WARS could definetely make over $44 million on Thursday.

Monster-in-Law - $19 million
Kicking & Screaming - 15 million
Unleashed - $7 million
Mindhunters - $3 million

It's like we don't learn! This weekend is going to be uber-low turnout. Yikes. You guys should prepare yourself for perhaps the lowest growwing weekend ever. Well, not ever, but you catch my drift.

On the plus side, The Holy Girl will kick ass again, and will probably still hold out a 10,000/theatre average. I can't give a number yet, since I don't know how many theatres it is expanding to. But since it said L.A. and some other select cities, I'd venture its only going to go up to maybe 8-10 theatres. When I find out I'll make a full predict simply by multiplying theatre# by ten, because this Girl's got incredibly steady legs.

Hmm .. really?? I remember that harry potter's preview screening numbers were all added to its opening weekend gross in England the first time it played. Thanx for the info.

Yup, paid previews are included in opening weekend gross here. Bit stupid if you ask me! [-(
