Rebirth ending up within like 50 mil of Dominion would be pretty impressive.

It is the reactionary right that is pushing this story and the left answering back I should clarify.

While the opening weekend is way lower than it ought to be, the patheticly low overseas numbers are the real problem here. This Superman is Very American but the high quality of the movie should be offsetting that in Europe and Latin America. But its not. And Asian numbers are just not where they used to be due to war and the increasingly poor taste of chinese audiences.

This Superman doesn’t even say “Truth Justice and the American way” and still can’t do well overseas

Cinema isn't the first thing you think about when you're sleeping on the streets.

Superman and Star Trek have always done bad overseas. People tend to forget the only reason they went forward with MOS, well A they wanted to go with Marvel, but also MOS wasn’t a big hit, it made amount the same as Returns, but it was probably one of the last big hits on DVD

The trend of people saving their money and then there being one of the biggest movies of all time a few times a year, may have taken a hit with it being a year since the last true mega performance in Deadpool, and relatively balanced summer in terms of Lilo, Jurassic World, Superman being around a hundred million of each other and probably F4 going in that range, though Minecraft's kind of felt like the thing where movies bomb and them something blows up.

I can't lie.

I cannot believe WB passed on what would have been a mega hyped return of Henry Cavill's Superman to fight The Rock's Black Adam for this movie.

Black Adam sucked, i dont think many wanted to see that.

This movie will have good legs domestic, i see it ending in the 320-340 range. Overseas does not suprise me at all.

I agree. I don’t get the recasting at all, Cavill could have gone lighter and could have made way for older Superman stories.

GET AWY FROM LEX!! The only thing about rebooting is no more Jesse as Lex.

I think the domestic opening is just enough to be considered good. Sub-90m would have been bad.

I would have loved Cavill continuing but I do feel the reboot eventually be worth it if the rest of the casting is good and they put together a Justice League that is appealing.

Cavill was popular enough to continue but I think to have a new Lois, Lex and to reset the other DC characters they needed a new Superman. Then again, making a Superman that forced to not have Lex and have a new love interest instead of Lois like Lana Lang would have been inspired and fresh.

Meh I don't think so. In hindsight, Black Adam's run was pretty decent but people were clowning on it hard at the time and blaming The Rock's ego for destroying the Snyderverse. But then Shazam, Flash, Blue Beetle, Aquaman and Joker all flopped one after another. Audiences needed to know things would be different and thus the recast was required. I'm obviously disappointed it didn't hit my expectations, but this same movie with Cavill probably lands in the $70-90M range. Like Brave New World and Thunderbolts at best.

Superman Returns attendance was basically the ceiling wasn’t it. MOS didn’t do that much more IIRC. This won’t either. There is a limited amount of people who want a Superman movie, the brand hasn’t expanded its audience arguably since Smallville TV series. In hindsight, maybe Tom Welling should’ve been the 21st movie Superman all along.

Welling would have been a solid Superman – perhaps he should have been in Superman Returns. Just like how they should have just gone with Gunstin for Flash.

Funny to think how many Superman films were mooted over the ears but failed to launch. We almost had Nicholas Cage as Superman in Tim Burton’s Superman Lives which would have been released in 1998/99.

There was Kevin Smith version before that and a couple of JJ Abrams versions.

Darren Aronofsky’s Batman vs Superman was also expected to happen in the early/mid 00s but failed to launch.

And then you had D.J. Cotrona who was apparently cast in George Miller’s Justice League which never took off either.

Superman went up to $125m, 17% drop for Sunday.

With summer weekdays and good WoM think it should manage to do around 350m.

I thought it was Wolfgang Petersen who had plans to make BvS. They were even casting back then and Josh Hartnett was offered Supes role and Johnny Depp was rumored as Bats. But it did not happen for various reasons.

Darren Aronofsky I thought was Batman Year One project and he even discussed the movie with Christian Bale.

They had a lot, Brett Ratner with Brendan Fraser, McG. And for Batman, Schumacher had a third almost ready to go with Kurt Russell as Batman going against scarecrow, I think it was called Batman Triumphant
