All I can say its final gross depends on how good the reviews are by critics. If it gets better reviews than Troy, it would be safe for now. Troy I think ended with a 55% RT rating

No way this film is a bona fide hit. For one thing, Orlando Blook is not Brad Pitt and this film just looks like another retread of LOTR. I'd say it will open with about 15-18 mill and close with about 60-65 mill.

I'd say an opening around $30 million, and a total just under $100 million at this point. The movie can either take the path of King Arthur or Troy. I'm leaning for in the middle for right now, though.

By the way...

Russell Crowe wasnt a big star when Gladiator opened, and Orlando Bloom is definately more popular than Russell Crowe was back before Gladiator made him famous. But so far the reviews I heard for the movie is alot less brutal than they were with Troy. It also looks alot more inspired than Troy

Troys advertising campaign is what killed it. To much of a turn off to alot of it's base.

For troy being one of the most succesfull in the genre, it could have done much much better.

I really would enjoy some feedback.

Positive, negative, doesn't matter. Both on the projection as well as the writing. Only way to get better is to hear what others think afteral :)

Troy had ALOT of hype surrounding it, Kingdom of Heaven not so much, but if it gets great reviews and marketing picks up this week I could see it doing 38m. As of right now I see low 30's

I think this should be compared more with gladiator than Troy. Troy didnt seem as historical as this bc of the whole greek thing, and with troy, you heard too much about brad pitt's ass and brad pitt more than the story. I think that may have negatively effected the gross for Troy.

But RC was known

LA Confidential
The Insider - with Oscar nominations
Then Gladiator - with great WOM and Oscar talk

****************************************************

Plus Gladiator - had the more appealing one on one fighting.

****************************************************

And pardon me but Orlando Bloom is no Brad Pitt (taken from the JFK reference)

****************************************************

Until I hear more about Kingdom of Heaven

I am thinking more King Arthur than the other mentioned movies.

this alone will try to pull in that tiny, little LOTR audience to see it but we know those few will never try to repeat the LOTR experience.

oh and nevermind that little group of Christians that took The Passion to $370 million. They defintiely won't see a movie about the Crusades.

yeah. this movie is dead.

Feedback incoming but keep in mind eagle this will sound more critical than how I overall feel. Overall it was very good, but I'm going to nitpick to help you. I doubt I could do any better. :)

Good use of photographs in the piece, well chosen shots.

You don't need a comma after the first "typically" but maybe do need one after summer.

The photographs could use small captions: Ridley Scott for the first one, "The movie features some exotic visuals" for the second one, "Orlando Bloom grows up" for the third, and so on.

I disagree with the analysis in regards to legs. The movie has high anticipation and appeal to older moviegoers and will have good legs. You mention that Gladiator won an oscar for best pic but that didn't help it's legs since it opened in the summer, not the winter. This movie has a lot in common with gladiator box officewise except that it has a more famous leading man. Crowe was little known at the time.

I disagree that Bloom has nothing on Pitt, they both have similar appeal to women. The only real difference is that Pitt is American and that does matter to some degree in the American market.

I would include comparison to the Last Samurai rather than Gangs of New York.

In the paragraph month of may, capitalize May and remove an e from thee.

I really would leave out most references to Alexander, it's like mentioning Gigli when reviewing the Godfather.

That's just nitpicking as I said though, you made some good points and I agree with the opening weekend guess, and the article looks good visually.

Great job, and almost the same prediction as mine!

The running time mentioned though is wrong if i'm not mistaken. Isn't it something like 2:30?

R for strong violence and epic warfare.

Yeah, I gotta say I think this will be a big hit. Everyone seems to know it's coming out, including a lot of people who don't see movies often. I've been saying it for awhile, but I think Troy sufered from turning off so many guys who thought it looked way too much like a male skinfest. A lot of my friends wouldn't see it for that reason. This seems to have more broad ranging appeal, though it could dissapoint, as even though the TV spots are excellent the trailers really seem pretty bad to me, even though they've been getting great reactions.
