Wtf is a Homestead? I thought that actor only did car commercials...

Just came from seeing the movie-it was free and had virtually no familiar actors save a few lower tier ones-who did alright. I went in with higher hopes for it-prob because I am a low key prepper (lets say lowest level of liberal prepper. I was entertained enough, particularly for the first 4/5ths...but the religious stuff kept coming up more and more (for background: I am a believer in a higher power - but with lots of questions - I do call that higher power "god" but again I don't have as much faith as most) and I was like...oh I guess I have been suckered into a movie with a message. That was not the worst part though. It really felt like it failed to launch...like there was some minor action but I think everyone was expecting more...then suddenly it ends saying "The End...is just the beginning. Then some actor from the movie-not a main character comes on screen speaking to the audience and asking us to "Pay it Forward" and a QR code comes on screen for us to scan and pay for someone else to see the movie for free and in turn we could watch the first episode free in a series that would start right where it left off. I literally laughed out loud. If your trying to convert people, just make a good movie...don't bait and switch them. I went to see an apocalypse movie...throw in a little religion if you must but this was something else. Feel like I just came from a Time Share Sales demo. That's my take. Still entertaining if you were bored, but would have been much better if they had just delivered a full movie than what they did here. The thing about faith is...don't be scammy about it. It prob will scare more people off and only attract those that are already fully onboard. Would love to hear what others think.

I hadn't paid much attention to this movie, aside from noticing it on the release schedule and seeing its poster on Rotten Tomatoes. Out of curiosity, I decided to check the Rotten Tomatoes page to see if there were any reviews. Some quotes mentioned it leading into a TV show, so I did some further investigating.

It turns out it's essentially an extended pilot episode for a show that debuts the same day on the Angel Studios website and app. The movie ends by encouraging viewers to "pay it forward" by purchasing a ticket for someone else, which in turn allows you to watch the first episode of the show for free. This is so insane.

Personally, I avoid religious films, but if I went to any movie expecting a complete story and encountered this bait-and-switch, I'd be pissed. It reminds me of the film The Devil Inside, which abruptly ended by directing viewers to a website to see the conclusion. Angel Studios is shameless.
