Some quite revealing statements from Cameron on the third Avatar movie came out today:
Quote:
“Fire has a symbolic purpose in the film and there’s a culture that is specifically around that concept. That’s probably saying too much as we speak,” he told Deadline.
Cameron continued, “You’re going to meet two completely new cultures in the next film. We met the Omaticaya, we met the Metkayina, and you’re going to meet two new cultures in the next film, and it kind of rove a little more freely around the world of Pandora to different places.”
It is released on 20 December 2024, sharing the Christmas box office with Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and Wicked.

I think it get close to the second film - perhaps even a little higher.
A year ago I would have said sub-400m gross but A2 has restored my faith in Camerons work and I think audiences have responded in the same way.
Fire will add another cinematic dimension for Cameron to wow us with - so that at least brings something new.

Wouldn’t be surprised if it tops whatever A2 ends up with

It will do on par with the second, unless it gets really badly received, which is possible

3 and 4 decline slightly domestically. 5 increases.
WW, if China is back on track, 3 will probably increase.

Re: Avatar 3 predictions
So the first movie was Earth tribe; then we met Water tribe in the sequel; next one is Fire tribe, and let me guess, Wind tribe? Which 'Avatar' franchise is this again?
James Cameron may be a really good director and storyteller but he does have a very limited, basic imagination.

My thoughts exactly.
It's fine if he's finding inspiration from Avatar though, going the element route is usually fun.
“Gods are great ... but the heart is greater. For it is from our hearts they come, and to our hearts they shall return.” “We were like gods at the dawning of the world, & our joy was so bright we could see nothing else but the other.” “There are three things all wise men fear: the sea in storm, a night with no moon, and the anger of a gentle man.” “You have to pretend you get an endgame. You have to carry on like you will; otherwise, you can't carry on at all.” "Paper is dead without words / Ink idle without a poem / All the world dead without stories."

I’m having fun counting another man’s (Cameron) money.

Re: Avatar 3 predictions
Lol I knew it. He's just going round the classic four elements. The original Na'Vi were wind, The Way of Water is self-explanatory, this one is fire. Literally the plot of the other Avatar series. The most basic, predictable way of divying up the nations of Pandora.
He's a great director but post T2 James Cameron has the most basic imagination ever. Like seriously. Wind, Water, Fire, Earth (I'm sure the next one will be 'The Stone Tribe' or whatever). How many movies and series have that motif? Like give us something more original pls.

It's clearly going to be about another Na'vi tribe that live near a volcano and now the evil humans are trying to mine the planet's core for ultra rare space diamonds or whatever, and it threatens to disrupt the techtonic plates and eventually the volcano blows up in the climax. I bet you $100 at least 80% of that will be in the movie.

This is some good video game tactics. Sand or ice level for #4!
The first one wasn't really any colour, more just setting up the universe, the people, the concept. Second was blue. Third will be red/orange. So I think the fourth has to be rainforest and grasslands, so green. I suppose it could be sand (yellow) but I think Dune has pipped Avatar to that tone for a few years while it resets.

This will make bank. Fire will allow for a different set of hopefully groundbreaking visuals. The not a big fan of the first - the second surprised me in both quality and box office. $700m is a good shot.
