Re: Josh Hartnett returns in Shymalan's TRAP - August 2024
I think this will be a big hit. $100m+ would not surprise me.

Uh
First reviews all say this is good to great? It is moreso tense-funny than outright-scary? Hartnett is unreal?

I saw the trailer on the big screen last night and it's SO much better. Hopefully this isn't a case of the 'great trailer meh movie'. But one thing is for sure, you can already tell Hartnett is excellent.

They say it’s a return to form for M. But I’ve heard that before. The new James Mcavoy film looks more interesting and made me remember how dam great he was in split, so I’m hopeful for this one surprising, I’m staying away from all marketing now though, I’m kind of pissed they showed he’s a killer, I’m still hoping maybe it’s a Phone Booth type scenario.

It's still so weird to me that they remade Speak No Evil already. It's only a couple years old and it was in English. Apparently they toned things down with the remake, so I really don't see the point. I liked the original, but I'm not sure I'll bother with this one. Maybe if I hear it's really good and stands on its own.

In retrospect if M Night couldn't deliver Knock at the Cabin to more than 14 mil opening weekend maybe it wasn't in the cards for him to have a breakout again. He should probably just be releasing these straight to Netflix or Apple or something where name recognition will always guarantee some people watch it.

You're talking like Trap has bombed. It'll do enough to warrant a theatrical release. Some films also need to be seen on the big screen.

I think he is ok as long as they are small budget movies. He is not getting another big budget movie funded by any major studio for sure.

Re: Josh Hartnett returns in Shymalan's TRAP - August 2024
Releasing it 1 week after D&W was an obvious mistake, and this likely needed positive reviews tor really fulfill its potential. I think more people pay attention to those some may think.
Had they kept the 8/9 date, had the quality here been 80% RT or more, and it was put out there a week before opening, I think we're looking at an opening closer to $30m

The film itself is not the best, and got skewed by obvious now trolling first reactions. It’s almost as bad as the happening at times. It is elevated by Hartnett, but that’s really about it. A return for m knight it is not. More top of the bottom half.
