Coyote vs. Acme
Apparantly WB is now letting the filmmakers shop this after backlash (and directors cancelling meetings with WB) due to initially shelving it for a taxbreak despite apprantly the screen test #s were strong. WB is truly idiotic wow.
It would be funny if another studio decides to release it theatrically and its a big hit lolol

Re: Coyote vs. Acme
Yeah if I'm a director/actor/producer with any sort of pull in this industry I would stay farrrrrr away from WB. Even if your movie is good, Zaslav might axe it just for kicks. Truly despicable and something that shouldn't be legal.

Re: Coyote vs. Acme
They are shopping it to Netflix, Apple and Amazon first. Chances are it won't even get theatrical unless Apple gets hold of it.

Re: Coyote vs. Acme
They had the Oscar winner for Gravity scoring this movie. It sounds incredible hearing Meep Meep as a classical rendition. Listen to it here. https://twitter.com/SteveBPrice/status/ ... 5600047%2FApparently Coyote vs. Acme tested multiple times in the 90s. (Best picture winner Argo, both Deadpool movies, and the first The Conjuring tested in the 90s.) A big crowd-pleaser. It's supposed to be in the same vein as the Barbie movie with Coyote pairing up with Will Forte his lawyer to take on the Acme corporation in a Roger Rabbit type movie. That story sounds super awesome. This feels like a Bob Chapek takes on Scarlett type move here of a studio head that doesn't understand how to deal with talent.

Re: Coyote vs. Acme
Zaslav makes Chapek look great. Zaslav seems intent on making WB unrecognizable. Cancelling products and changing names, trying to shutter TCM until Spielberg, Scorsese, and others talked him out if it, removing WB material from MAX, selling off a bunch of their music catalog...
Wouldn't be surprised if he sells Looney Tunes and the rights to all the Hanna-Barbera characters at some point too. Cartoon Network Studios closed its headquarters just a few months ago.
I get the impression he's doing everything he can to generate great personal wealth at WBs expense before he cashes out.

Re: Coyote vs. Acme
Space Jam 2 had a $150M budget and they let it go theatrical with HBO Max release in 2021. 38% RT. $70,592,228 total. $70M budget for Coyote Vs Acme. Cinematographer did Sonic 1, 2 and is doing the third one so seems well adept at these live action / animated movies to big box office. Produced by James Gunn AND story contribution from him too. This is how to support the creative team you've put in charge of the DCU? I really hope this gets a theatrical release somehow.

Re: Coyote vs. Acme
I don’t know how much I trust the people on twitter claiming it’s good after its cancellation when they could just be trying to support it, nonetheless, it could find a streaming audience.

Re: Coyote vs. Acme
So apparently the rights to this movie are heating up. Paramount HAS made a bid for a theaterical release in 2024 according to DHD. Amazon is still considering it. Apple and Sony have decided not to make bids. WB is playing hardball and wants a full $70M for it given their costs. Just sounds so funny that they care so much about it not to release it as a tax write off and now want the full $70M for the property. Seems like this could be a hit if WB suddenly cares about it! https://deadline.com/2023/12/coyote-vs- ... 235658240/

Re: Coyote vs. Acme
So fucking weird. You'd think they needed a big release for 2024 with the strike ending not too long ago.

Re: Coyote vs. Acme
Apparantly nobody wants to pay the 80m WB wants for the rights so its shelved again...
This is absolutely so stupid lolol. I feel if they actually relesse it they'd get more than the $30m tax break eventually but ok.

Re: Coyote vs. Acme
Space Jam 2 made $31.1M/$70.6 million in 2021. Even if the pandemic, the nearly 2.5X multiplier reflects how bad this was ($150M budget). I feel like this project could have beaten that box office wise as a family movie.
The biggest WTF here is that the head of WB, CEO David Zaslav never even watched the full movie before making the decision!
If your going to spend $80M on a movie and decide to do a tax writeoff for it instead seems like you should watch some of the movie? They clearly are too big and have too much $$$ if they can throwaway $80M without even watching the project.

Re: Coyote vs. Acme
Can WB slash the price and let someone buy it for 50 million instead of 80 or something

First Scooby and now Looney Toons. Zaslav hates my childhood favorites. :-(

Shack wrote: Can WB slash the price and let someone buy it for 50 million instead of 80 or something Seems like they intentionally priced it higher than anyone would pay. Zaslav couldn't let amazon pick it up and watch it become a hit.
