 Re: Barbenheimer weekdays
Other #'s
Sound of Freedom $2,568,118 -31% $136,562,7654 M:I 7 $2,131,202 -38% $128,508,033 Elemental $988,484 -15% $141,583,672 IJ5 $893,333 -34% $163,084,867 Insidious $700,000 -42% $74,904,397 Spider-Man $420,000 -32% $377,355,451
Sound looks on pace for $150M this weekend. MI finally has a decent week over week hold but then is losing 1000+ theaters so better late than never. First week/week drop under 53% of its run so far!
Elemental will definitely benefit from HM even if its losing a lot of theaters this weekend. It's Thursday PTA of $363 is actually up vs last Thursday's $360 so still finding an audience. It's at a 4.78X multiplier.
IJ5 has its best week over week drop of its run so far so benefiting from HM as well.
Insidious is quietly having a fantastic run. Spider-verse chugging along to a likely $385M ish finish.

Boo hoo MI is going from a ridiculously over saturated release to a saturated release.
Is anyone going to have trouble finding a showing this weekend? No

What's to discuss? "It's doing great" - "agreed" There's your discussion.

I really like that a movie with a male movie star+female movie star working together had a big hit like this. There is something old school about it.

It's gonna get 17 days ina row over 10mil. What the actual fuck. Barbie and Mario are both movies that just are so incredibly successful that after a while there is not much you can say about it.

I actually found the film to be subtly homophobic so I don't really feel like I'm winning.

Yup. Agreed! And for being “woke” it really seem to re-enforce a two gender society. kinda disappointing.

 Re: Barbenheimer weekdays
I was more talking about how any feminine traits in the Kens were viewed as a joke, any gay-coded characters (because there were no explicitly gay characters) were also played off as a flamboyant joke like the guy who liked Ryan Gosling's outfit in the skating scene or the 'sugar daddy' Ken. It felt like a regression to the 90s and 00s in how Hwood portrays gay people as nothing more than flamboyant background character jokes. Kind of undermined how progressive the film tried to be in my view.

 Re: Barbenheimer weekdays
These last few weeks remind me of my earliest boxoffice tracking experiences….the dual run of Forrest Gump and Lion King. I believe Forrest Gump had a photo finish two weeks in a row! I could be mistaken. Obviously Barbie and Oppenheimer (just saw it a 4th time) are vastly apart but the dual nature of that 1994 summer season is there.

 Re: Barbenheimer weekdays
Oppenheimer is at $238,103,205 as of Tuesday so will pass MBFGW's $241.4M likely today for #2 biggest movie of all time never to reach #1 behind only Sing at $270.4M.
Barbie needs to hold well enough that Oppenheimer's extended IMAX run and films flopping doesn't let it get to #1 so we can have a $300M+ movie beat Sing.

 Re: Barbenheimer weekdays
Oppenheimer has decreased three days on the trot. What's going on? Wednesday and Thursday will make five days in a row. It's unusual when a film doesn't increase on a Tuesday.

Monday was like a holiday in Canada. As Adult focused movies, it benefited by softer than normal drop and so less potential for tuesday increase. On top of it its driven by Imax big time which has no impact when it comes to discount tuesday.

1 Sing $270,395,425 2 124 2016 Universal Pictures 2 Oppenheimer $245,469,475 2 153 2023 Universal Pictures 3 My Big Fat Greek Wedding $241,438,208 2 155 2002 IFC Films
Oppenheimer is now the 2nd biggest film of all time to never reach #1 and its just $25M away from becoming #1!
Just can't have it somehow leg it out to a #1 later in its run if Sept movies flop.

 Re: Barbenheimer weekdays
Schools starting up again means bigger drops.
Monday
1 Barbie $4.8M -47% $531.2M 2. Oppenheimer $2.5M -47% $266.8M 3. TMNT $1.8M -52% $74.1M The Meg 2 $1.4M -56% $55.7M
Barbie will pass Rogue One and TDK today to become #16 of all time domestic and WB's biggest film ever unadjusted. Barbie might be at $570M by the end of the weekend so feeling like its going to be down to the wire if it reaches top 10 domestic ($650M) but looking like a stretch.
Oppenheimer just $3.6M away from becoming #1 biggest film of all time never to hit #1!
1 Sing $270,395,425 2 Oppenheimer $266.8M

Barbie needs around 4.7 multiplier from last weekend to hit 650m+. It's gonna be playing in theaters for months so I think it'll get there.

WBD need to treat it like Paramount did Top Gun:Maverick. Keep it in theaters until it's making less than $5m weekends. Which won't be till late September

 Re: Barbenheimer weekdays
Barbie also has a one-two punch coming soon with Cinema Day a week from Sunday that I have to imagine will benefit it the most the way Maverick benefited the most last year, and then Labor Day the weekend after. Those back-to-back could give it some pretty soft drops that end up being enough to pass Jurassic World.
