 Re: Barbie predictions
I dunno, I kinda agree with Zwack there. Barbie's advertising has been all about "she's everything, he's just Ken" or, something that supposedly happened on the French posters "she's good at everything, he's just good at fucking." I'm hoping the movie will be more complex than that as it compares a fantasy world run by women to the real one run by men, but who knows? My interest is 100% to see what Greta does with the material though. If this was directed by Jessica Schmo, starring Jane Schmo and John Schmo, I doubt I'd bother. It also helps that the rest of the summer is weak af. After Barbenheimer, the only other thing I wanna see until late September is a shark movie.

I still have a hard time believing guys are that jacked for this so it has to be getting like every woman. It just goes to show how under-served female audience is for 50% of the population.

I'm sure plenty of guys will show up with their significant other or what not. (and... maybe tons of young adult gay males will see this) Demo breakdown should be interesting.

My straight guy friends have no interest in this. I do think demographics will be similar to Twilight.

I'm a straight guy and I have no interest in Barbie.
So I guess interest in seeing it doesn't have much to do with your sexual preference or gender.

I am a straight guy and do want to see it, but honestly, my interest is primarily primed by my wife.

I'm thinking sub $70m gross.
Oppenheimer will be on the smaller scale for Nolan but should still clear $100m at least - perhaps closer to $150m. Just rereading this thread. LOL but no one saw this being a $600m+ grosser. Thought it would be a hit at grossing like $150m.

 Re: Barbie predictions
BTW guys, that was in December 22. I did redeem myself a little in April this year with : MadGez wrote: The trailer ensures it won’t flop. If it’s good it can go $150m+ domestically Though 2 days later I gave advise that would have killed the Barbenheimer phenom... MadGez wrote: One thing is for sure - this will open huge. It may come to the point where Oppenheimer is better off moving the the following week because this will steal all the buzz that weekend.

 Re: Barbie predictions
I think I predicted Barbie bomb at one point as well after seeing Robbie was ice cold, this was definitely a boom/bust project.

Not a knock at Keyser, of course. We all make bad calls, and he quickly picked up the potential when presales started and predicted huge when the release came along. Just always funny to see how the vast majority can be wrong on a film early on sometimes.

 Re: Barbie predictions
To be fair, the marketing was very confusing up until the "This Barbie is a..." poster meme. Pretty sure we were all operating under the belief that this would be a movie for kids and the combo of Gerwig, Baumbach, Robbie and Gosling didn't make any sense for that type of film. Once it became clear this would be a gals night out type of movie I think most of us came around, though obviously nobody was able to predict just how high it would go.

I was on board this movie only after its trailer in May and social media reactions to it. I realized this is going to breka out. Otherwise I was in Margot Robbie is a BO poison camp considering recent performances of her movies including high profile ones.

I'm still curious how strongly they plan on marketing this to actual kids, but they're doing a pretty good job sparking awareness and interest among adults. Plus I think opening against Oppenheimer is actually. long-term pro for both movies, since the rivalry will help increase awareness for both movies.

You predicted Barbenheimer before it happened.
