Re: Billboard chart discussion thread
Also, Last Nite should be the one getting three weeks at #1. That song (and album) still hit the same as 22 years ago.

These charts are so boring. We need some summer jams to pop up asap.

Idk it I'll ever hear this Morgan Wallen song...
But yeah in general music is pretty fucking boring. No one is doing anything exciting.

I wonder if fifty fifty's "Cupid" can make it to the top 10. They'd be the first K-Pop act since PSY who would do so without an obsessed fanbase propelling songs to #1.

But yeah in general music is pretty fucking boring. No one is doing anything exciting. The quality of music dropped off a cliff in 2020 with the rise of TikTok garbage 5 years ago top 10: 1. Drake - Nice for What 2. Post Malone - Psycho 3. Drake - God's Plan 4. Bebe Rexha & Florida Georgia Line - Meant to Be 5. Zedd, Maren Morris and Grey - The Middle 6. Camilla Cabello - Never Be the Same 7. Post Malone - Better Now 8. Post Malone - Rockstar 9. Blocboy - Look Alive 10. Ariana Grande - No Tears Left to Cry 10 years ago top 10: 1. Pink - Just Give Me A Reason 2. Macklemore - Can't Hold Us 3. Rihanna - Stay 4. Macklemore - Thrift Shop 5. Justin Timberlake - Mirrors 6. Bruno Mars - When I Was Your Man 7. Justin Timberlake - Suit and Tie 8. Pitbull feat Christina Aguilera - Feel This Moment 9. Icona Pop feat Charlie XCX - I Love It 10. Imagine Dragons - Radioactive 2013 is definitely my favorite. I think decline started in late 2010s.

Re: Billboard chart discussion thread
Eh the rise of poprap has been detrimental to the quality of the charts, but pop music is overall better than 2013 since we've got 1) Emotion 2) Emotion Side B 3) Dedicated 4) Dedicated Side B and 5) The Loneliest Time since then. And all Halsey's albums too.

Re: Billboard chart discussion thread
And even what people think of as the golden ages of pop music - 80s, late 90s, early 00s, etc... None of those people were writing their own songs or singing them live. If the charts were full of Taylor, Carly, Paramore, Sheeran, Beach Bunny, Angele, etc... No one would have a problem with the way music is now.
But the streaming era has empowered poprap and popcountry. Two of the worst genres history. That represents America quite well though since our politics, from the youthful woke to Ya'll Qeada, have also gone so extreme and become shitty because of it. Most people would rather pick the less bad option instead of looking for something good.

Re: Billboard chart discussion thread
I think the last 5 years has songs that will stand the test of the time on radio like Blinding Lights, As It Was, Old Town Road, Driver's License, Truth Hurts, and maybe the Dua Lipa's. The depth is not quite as good though. Much like movies you could argue the middle class has suffered. Rap is actually not pop ENOUGH to me, there needs to be more guys like Nelly, Pitbull, Flo Rida, etc. that nobody is pretending are 2pac but release catchy songs with pop choruses.

Re: Billboard chart discussion thread
2009-2015 had the best music of the century so far. 2016-2018 declined until there was a rebound in 2019. But since 2020, all I’ve liked is Harry Styles, Olivia Rodrigo, Morgan Wallen and Taylor Swift.

Damn that Lil Durk song was #1 on apple all week and still couldn't get the job done. Was hoping that Bad Bunny could take out Walen but Last Night might just be too strong to get rid of.

All My Life would be pretty good if it had a little less of that autotone feeling to his voice.

Re: Billboard chart discussion thread
One of Olivia Rodrigo and Lil Nas X next eras will be huge and one will disappoint and make them a one album chart wonder.
