Yeah Shazam was waaaay better off against Avatar. Even with a low opening the holidays could've had it hit like 80m+... still bad but lol

Looking back  yeah would've done better

Feels like a bit of a pre-summer lull to me. I can't see how Guardians is going to reach $300 million from here, and $58 million for the weekend? I also don't see it from a $15.7m Friday.

Hypnotic bombed. Who'd have thought from a company called Ketchup Entertainment that it would fail?! ;)

Apparently The Next Chapter is all dick jokes, but its small opening isn't a concern. Older ladies take a while to get out of the house. I bet it reaches $28 million from a $7 mil opening.

Doctor Strange did almost 62m off a 17m second Friday, and that didn’t have Mother’s Day to inflate its second Sunday.

It will be around 210m after this weekend. A 3x multiple, which is generally quite doable from a second weekend, from here gets it to 326m

Man Ant-Man must have been terrible to basically past in total after 10 days with the same OD

To be honest none of MCU films are first day viewings for me this year. Glad Guardians is holding well though, hopefully MCU is back. Pandemic definitely hurt their quality

It’s too bad Marvel is following this up with The Marvels, which feels like it’s doomed no matter what goodwill this may restore for the franchise.

After watching it a second time, it may be better than NWH to be my favorite McU film since endgame. It’s so quirky and different

I actually think Marvels looks great (it’s the most hated trailer of all time like the girls ghostbusters, and that ended up being solid) the backlash is kind of ridiculous for what looks to be a solid improvement over the first

Almost double Ant-Man 3's second weekend...

The OS numbers are also great. Seems like it has a good chance of outgossing Vol. 2 worldwide as long as it doesn't get hit too hard by Fast X and The Little Mermaid.

Yeah I think the Marvels looks surprisingly great and fun. I hope it does at least half of CM1.

I don’t think it looks terrible but beyond Nick Fury appearing it looks like another Shazam 2 to me

Just shows how much money was still on the table OW. Seems like Ant Man reduced the rush OW to see MCU's next movie but quality and wom helped it recover. Great hold and even better that it will do $300M+.

Book Club 2 did really bad. Alarming for the health of the box office with older audiences. Seems like TGM was a one off as still a lot more movies need to do well for that demo to come back still.

The problem with Marvels is the first one was so inflated it can only go down from there. It's like Alice 2 in a way, which was inflated by the 3D craze as the first big 3D opener 3 months after Avatar. The sequel fell off a cliff at disastrous levels.

I think there's pros and cons to Marvels. The first Captain Marvel is considered kind of a non-entity even beyond the __Gate crowd, but I also don't think it's considered so bad to cast a stinky fart cloud over what's effectively a soft reboot. There's worries that audiences might be lost about the other two ladies, but from what I can see, Kamala is being played as a fish out of water, so I don't think the lore will be too oppressive (I want to say comparable to how Spider-Man was brought into the MCU). Also, the way Monica got powers in WandaVision was such a "I guess she got powers now" thing in the show itself. I guess it's a matter of audience feeling they need to catch up on everything Marvel to see it.

I knew WOM would be red hot for Guardians. Glad it dropped sub 50%. It has a chance of matching the original which is very good.

I am not sure goodwill for GOTG3 will help other Marvel movies. GOTG always felt a bit apart from the other films because it's not set on Earth.

100% agreed. GotG is doing well on its own merits and is more of a standalone throwback to the infinity era which importantly is unrelated to the multiverse saga (a good thing) and is actually a good film. The next few films will have to sink or swim on their own merits. Won’t be easy considering they general have B tier characters.

Looks like Disney underestimated GOTG3's Sunday by around $1.5m...

Going from an opening weekend $69M behind Multiverse of Madness to a bigger second weekend...incredible.

So it's actual is $62,008,548. I'm pretty gobsmacked by that. I thought my $57 million prediction was a tad high. Excellent figure. I actually cannot seeing it missing $300m now.
