 Mothers Day Weekend numbers
Book Club 500k preview
Seems like maybe high single digits.
Crazy the original made almost 70m. This will be lucky to make 25m

 Re: Mothers Day Weekend numbers
The first had pretty good legs. These films appeal to older moviegoers, and they don't rush out opening weekend. The first only opened to $13.5 million. If this does high single digits, it could finish with $40 million if it has the same legs as the first.

I don’t really see how it has great legs as it will lose butt tons of theaters after Memorial Day.

The sort of cinema that has this type of film isn't the sort of cinema that would care about The Little Mermaid or Spider-Man.

Am I the only one who doesn't remember the first Book Club at all? I'm convinced it doesn't exist. This is an accounting conspiracy. And it goes all the way to the top!

Why is this going to deviate from the first's performance?

Why is this going to deviate from the first's performance? Because it will open to barely half of the first film. So it will probably do like 4-5m next week and barely be doing anything by Memorial Day. It’s not gonna have a much bigger total than AYTG?IM,M Just because the first is leggy doesn’t mean this one will be. 80 For Brady barely got a 3x multiple

 Re: Mothers Day Weekend numbers
You said hi single digits in the first post, that's 9 million. similar legs would put it at 45 million. It should play well for older audiences, the first isn't the only extremely old skewing movie to do well. 80 for Brady somehow managed a 3+ multiplier despite being a one weekend only type of movie. The first did 625k. Similar roll out would be around 10-11 million for the weekend.

Sequels to movies for older audiences are probably a tougher sell because they're more skeptical about franchises and they died in the meantime. I also think 80 For Brady scratched that itch.

If it can hold onto theaters, GOTG has a chance to match the original unadjusted

zwackerm wrote: If it can hold onto theaters, GOTG has a chance to match the original unadjusted Theaters is not the issue. next week its losing Imax/PLF and so will take a big hit and following that every week there is a wide big opener. So screens/showtimes will be challenging. Especially into June. Even Mario took a big hit last week bcos Guardians took all Imax/PLF screens.

 Re: Mothers Day Weekend numbers
The sequel to Book Club is not going to have the same kind of legs as the first. It's been so long since the first and I don't think many felt a sequel was necessary. It's easier for an original movie to leg out. That doesn't happen as often with sequels.
That being said I'm hoping to catch it while it's playing. I saw the first in theaters with my mom and a few other family members. We all enjoyed it.

Streaming era hits this hard since the first one. Old people are just gonna watch this at home.

Guardians official estimate 15.7m
Looks like 57-58m and a 51-52% drop. Which will be the 6th or 7th best hold on the MCU for a second weekend, over or under Far From Home and beating Thor Ragnarok

Yeah Shazam was waaaay better off against Avatar. Even with a low opening the holidays could've had it hit like 80m+... still bad but lol
