 Re: Guardians 3 weekend thread
Not great but not a complete disaster. It does feel like this franchise never lived up to its full potential after the first film though. Vol 2 was successful but it should've been way bigger (and a better film) after how beloved and fresh the first one was. Guardians had the potential to be the 2010s Pirates of the Caribbean but for some reason hype felt deflated after the first film. So a much lower OW for part 3 on the already slightly-lower-than-expected OW for Part 2 feels disappointing. But it should still have decent legs and make a profit. It's not an Ant-Man 3 or Eternals disaster.
On the other hand, Infinity War felt like GotG 3 in a way since the plot focused on Gamora/Thanos/Starlord so much. Who knows what this would've done if it had been a stand-alone series.

 Re: Guardians 3 weekend thread
Yeah, looks like Guardians isn't reaching #2 for the summer. To be fair, I did say #'s 2-5 on my list were interchangeable and it'll still probably fall in that range, but maybe I should've swapped it with Flash (#5). Hopefully it has great legs.
Between Love Again and Citadel maybe Hollywood will take the hint that no one gives a shit about Priyanka Chopra. Then again there was no marketing for both this and that new Lily James movie that came out. I had no idea what the hell that movie was until I saw it when I was looking up showtimes.
Edit: I have Guardians at #2, but I thought I had it at $385 million. I predicted $350 million. It won't hit that, but at least I won't be colossally off.

Correct I think GoTG can still get to $300-$315m. Considering a bunch of blockbusters look to battle for that $200-$350m region, it's position in the chart could go anywhere from 1st to 8th! It's a tight group this year. Nothing will touch Maverick and possibly even JW3/Minions either.

 Re: Guardians 3 weekend thread
Extraordinary sunday hold for Guardians. I am seeing 15% drop from yesterday !!! Ultimately this is going to end up with a good number domestic, international and WW even with weak start. Power of WOM will help it beat Thor 4 WW.

 Re: Guardians 3 weekend thread
Whaaaaat
119m opening looks better. And 2.5 multiplier seems like a given. Hopefully weekend 2 drop is great given WoM.
2.8 multiplier to match #1. Not totally impossible...

$118.4m. Very impressive Sunday hold.
Think it'll be able to gross close to #1.

$118M is very impressive for what I thought was one of the most underwhelming campaigns. If it had a different campaign could have beat #2 IMO OW.

That $118 million is from pure brand power, because Vol. 3 looked like a pretty generic Pratt and Bautista banter fest with no story and only gags.

8.9m. https://twitter.com/GiteshPandya/status ... 3478161410OS is more impressive for sure. Charlie is saying 500m OS could happen. !!!

 Re: Guardians 3 weekend thread
Harsher Monday drop than Dr Strange, though Dr Strange decreased Tuesday. We’ll see if it increases today.

 Re: Guardians 3 weekend thread
Sunday was inflated big time with a tiny drop from saturday. So it had to drop worse than DS2 which had average Sunday hold. Today Guardians should increase though during opening week tuesday increase will be soft especially for big openers.

I hope it passes Dr Strange in dailies quickly. Less than 10% behind it now.

 Re: Guardians 3 weekend thread
Unless it has great legs - which is likely considering its reception - it just feels like it will end with less than $300 million.

Shame because this felt like a good film that suffered from Marvel fatigue and the anti-woke mob.

Has Shazam! Fury of the Gods already closed after just 49 days? No weekend figure...

 Re: Guardians 3 weekend thread
Guardians wednesday seems around 7m. Charlie thinks 60m 2nd weekend is possible. I think that is high but 55m should happen.

$55-60M would be awesome but I don't see it. Even the best of Marvel films drop around 60% in their second weekend.

It’s kind of crazy that despite the same OD Guardians 3 looks to outgross Ant-Man 3 by day 11
