They need to look at how Desantis and Youngkin have united the Republican base and moderates and proceed from there. Moderates don't like Trump like they did in 2016 and they are unlikely to vote for MAGA candidates even if they otherwise like Republicans/conservatives Maybe Youngkin is different story, but if DeSantis is nominee the left will probably just start treating him like Hitler and say he's worse than Trump, he has done plenty to piss them off like being aggressive on things like covid and gender stuff in schools/declaring war on wokeism, and has FU personality that can be twisted into scary fascist bad guy. The coverage of any serious Republican threat will be dripping with propaganda designed to favor the Democrats. Even for someone like Pence who is their ideal in terms of non-threatening personality and openness to be anti-Trump, they most likely find a different route to drag him down like going all in on his anti LGBT history. Any weaknesses will be exploited by ruthless left who will do anything to win for their ideology and bring knives when Republicans think they're fighting with fists.

' This is obviously not true because Desantis polls much better with moderates than Trump, as do the majority of non MAGA republicans Trump actually is a pretty terrible person with lots of actual things to criticize that many other Republicans do not share. Desantis is going to win reelection in florida by the biggest margin at least since 2006 despite being attacked by the media more than any politician besides Trump

In the future (possibly after DeSantis since I think he's legit) Maga may be replaced by more of a corporate sanitized version that retains some of the anti-censorship, pro-nationalism, anti-elitism, etc. and where Covid lockdowns is their Iraq and Dr Fauci is a Rumsfield like villain, but ultimately without as much real teeth and as loyal to the Republican establishment president at the end of the day as Occupy Wall Streeters were to Obama.

Realclearpolitics has Vance +4 Nate Silver is including a Ryan +10 poll which seems dubious

I must be missing some sort of controversy with Vance, it makes sense the rest of the races would be close but Republicans for senate are doing better in every other race considered swing besides Colorado, Arizona and PA at this point. And Ohio is the most Republican of the swing states at this point

Re: The Biden era: The Establishment Strikes Back
Desantis IS worse than Trump, because he has even worse fucking policies and is an even bigger piece of shit. Rs just keep doubling down on Trumpism and as long as they keep getting elected, they're going to keep getting worse and more regressive.
The only thing about Desantis is he's literally imitating Trump more and more and that's going to turn a lot of people off. Because he's also a piece of shit.

Re: The Biden era: The Establishment Strikes Back
DeSantis will presumably be more "dangerous" as President since he'd be more likely to get his legislative agenda / policies through Congress (assuming the GOP had the majority, too).
That's in regard to agenda and policy, of course. Trump is clearly more dangerous to allow back in the position.
If anything "good" came of Trump's presidency, it's that he and the GOP totally wasted their Congressional majority, failing to pass anything impactful besides that $1.5 trillion tax cut bill for billionaires and corporations when they had full control. Trump had, and has, no interest in policy, which has become more common within the party itself. So, we can be somewhat relieved by his lack of experience, or care, I suppose, is wanting to actually do the job.
The Biden Administration and Legislative Branch have done a lot in these past 19 months, especially considering their miniscule Congressional majority. Much has been "watered down", but they've gotten there in the end on much of what they ran on in 2020. They have a lot to run on in the midterms as a result, and the GOP knows this as many members up for reelection who voted against their policies have been campaigning on them anyway since they're popular polices.

Walker winning in Georgia would be the most mind numbing thing to ever happen to this country. Warnock is a good, competent Senator. Walker is honestly brain damaged. The dude can't even put a coherent sentence together. He should be checked for CTE, not BECOMING A SENATOR. But hey, this is the new GOP. They will literally run any fucking deranged psychopath as long as they hate china and the "WOKE LEFT".

Warnock is a big pusher of the Biden student debt move which if unpopular in Georgia could flip the race against him. Some other Democrats in places like Nevada and Ohio have distanced themselves from it.

Re: The Biden era: The Establishment Strikes Back
DEMs just picked up the lone House seat in ruby-red Alaska in a special election that had been in the hands of GOP for the past 50 years. The losing GOP candidate? Trump-endorsed Sarah Palin.
The GOP can take it back again in November, but Palin is their top candidate (….), so... Seems unlikely so much will change in 8 weeks to change the result.

The Republicans combined for 60% of the vote but a lot of the other guy's voters refused to put Palin 2nd. Probably best if she just dropped out.

This is because of the ranked choice voting/split between the 2 Republican candidates Is the general election ranked choice as well? If not the Republicans will absolutely win the seat back. If it is then Democrats would have the chance to keep it Looking, the general will be ranked choice as well, so Republicans need to pick Begich or Palin or the same thing will happen for no reason Looking at this, this is really dumb. This is like if Republicans had won the recall in CA last year because Democrats refused to rally around Newsom.

Re: The Biden era: The Establishment Strikes Back
So it looks like a significant amount of Begich voters left choice 2 blank which is how the Democrat won round 2 despite 60% of round 1 votes going to Republicans.
Corpse is right, Palin dropping out could be the difference between losing the seat and Begich winning the general by 10+% points

Re: The Biden era: The Establishment Strikes Back
Ranked Choice is the best, honestly. It makes it so people can actually voice their opinions and not just be "stuck" with a single candidate.
also LOL Palin won't drop out. she's a trumpist and they can never admit defeat despite losing many, many, many, many, many times.

Biden has always been a shitty speaker so I have no desire to watch what was no doubt a speech of rehearsed sound bites, but people are so partisan these days that most folks opinions on the speech are probably worse.
